Default Typical Oil Pressure and Temp Readings

I didn't see a thread that tracked Oil Pressures and Temps, whether healthy, boosted, dry sump, etc. I was always curious what a "healthy" oil pressure was, as well as oil temp.

I recently installed a PLX DM-6 gauge, with Oil Pressure and Temp, and Water Temp. Figured I'd share my readings:

Car: F22C
Mods: Stock oil pan, custom baffle, Mishimoto radiator, vented hood
Oil: 10w40 Synthetic
Water: Distilled with a bottle of water wetter

Oil Pressure:
@Idle; Start up: 50-60psi
@Idle; At Temp (180'): 10-15psi
@3000RPM, Stable Throttle: 80-90psi
@WOT: 80-90psi, with a noticeable dip at VTEC engagement

Oil Temp (100degree Vegas weather):
@Idle: 210'
@3000RPM, Stable Throttle: 220'
@WOT: 240' (at an autocross)

Water Temp (100degree Vegas weather):
@Idle: 190-195'
@3000RPM, Stable Throttle: 200-210'
@WOT: 215'-220' (at an autocross)

Curious what other people are seeing at similar events and what mods. I have an oil cooler laying around, but haven't had a chance to track the car with the gauges, so have no idea what I'm seeing at on track.

My sensor locations:
Oil pressure - sandwich adapter at oil filter
Oil temp - sandwich adapter at oil filter
Water temp - freeze plug on exhaust side of block

I have been logging oil pressure data for the past year, attached is some data from a recent track day at VIR.
The top, middle, and bottom plots are lateral Acceleration [g], RPM, and oil pressure [PSI], respectively. Engine is completely stock.

Observations:

1.) Above 6000 RPMS / VTEC, the oil pressure is consistently between 70-75 PSI

2.) Below 6000 RPMS / VTEC, the oil pressure would rise with RPM between ~20 (idle) to 90 PSI (just before VTEC engagement)

3.) As you noted, I consistently measure an oil pressure drop between 10-15 PSI when VTEC is engaged, and vice versa.

Hope this helps,
Caleb

Recent track day, was seeing these numbers...

Ambient Temps - 80-85.

Oil Pressure:
During 20 minute session: 85-99psi

Oil Temp:
During 20 minute session: Max of 260'

Water Temp:
During 20 minute session: Max of 215'

I was a little worried about the Oil temp, but read that I should really worry until it hits 280 while hot lapping.

As long as you're using a good oil, 260 is nothing to worry about.

Thought I'd chime in because my Oil pressure at Idle has dropped slightly which worried me but looks like I'm actually higher than most people. Even converted to Fahrenheit/PSI />

Car: F20C
Mods: Spoon baffled oil pan, Koyo radiator, Spoon thermostat, Spoon thermoswitch, Cusco radiator plate and AP2 4 hole banjo bolt upgrade.
Oil: Motul 300V 10w40 Synthetic
Water: Distilled with a bottle of water wetter

Oil Pressure:
@Idle; Start up: 80~psi
@Idle; At Temp (180'): 22-29 psi
@3000RPM, Stable Throttle: 80-90psi
@WOT: 80-90psi (Haven't checked to see if there's a dip as usually my eyes are on the road haha)

Oil Temp (About 80 degree Melbourne, Australia weather):
@Idle: 190'
@3000RPM, Stable Throttle: 190-200' (Depends how long really)
@WOT: 250-260~' (5 WOT laps on a 3km technical track)

Water Temp (Same conditions):
@Idle: 185-190'
@3000RPM, Stable Throttle: 185-190~' (Again depends how long)
@WOT: 190~' (5 WOT laps on a 3km technical track)

This past weekend....

'03 AP1 with stock cooling system
Ambient temp 50-55
Oil temp measured at the pan

I saw a peak oil temp of 285!!! Temps hovered mostly in the mid 270's. I hate to think what my oil temps were when ambient temps were in the mid 90's late last summer.

Interesting data!
If I compare the above data of mr. C32B to the rest, the only difference seems to be a vented hood.
Since his high load temperatures in 90 degree weather are approx 30 degrees F. lower compared to the others! You would say this is thanks to his vented hood. I've already read that a vented hood helps a great deal in supplying cold air under the hood and drift away hot air.
(Has something to do with creating a vacuum?

Do you guys think this is the main successor?

I wouldn't say it's a vacuum, but rather a low pressure area on top of the hood around the vents compared to high pressure under the hood b/c of radiator fans pulling air in and whatever air that gets trapped in the engine bay from turbulance created by suspension and engine/body parts. Fluid dynamics says that gases/Air will allways take the path of least resistance.

Sorry guys but i must have missed out my oil cooler in my list of mods. When I was stock (no bolt ons with Flashpro) , a combo of stock radiator and Greddy oil cooler could allow me continuous hot laps from full tank to empty while revving the snot out of it.

Once I went to bolt-on modifications to increase power and a higher rpm, the heat started to build even with a relatively conservative air fuel ratio. I needed a radiator, thermostat, fan switches but heat would still rise after 7-8 laps and I would have to start to manage the heat. I must admit that ambient temps are postiviely searing at the track that I go to and track temps are maybe even close to 55 deg C at some points! A vented hood (used J'S FRP one at 250 USD) and addition of MoCool in my coolant solved it while on Motul 5w-30. Oil pressures are stellar. Now I'm back to lapping without pause....

Except now my pads self destruct even with brake ducting lol! Just the fronts though. Getting SOS rotors to solve it for good hopefully.
