what type of performance do your cop cars give out in the states ???
they are pretty slow... I think it was Sport Compact Car that did road testing of police interceptors including the Camaro cop car... they were all pretty slow... even the camaro, which was their fastest, only ran something like a mid-14 in the 1/4 mile, mostly because cop cars are loaded up with all kinds of heavy crap. The regular interceptors ran like 16-17 second 1/4 miles I believe.

edit: here is the link: http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/features...test/index.html

14.14 for the camaro, 16.99 for the interceptor.

rs4 is 80 grand? i thought that was the rs6... i didnt even know they had the rs4 in the states
Saw one this morning on the way to work, he's leading a caravan of high end brand new cars and SUVs. My guess they are going to the local dealer, but the weird thing is they all have regular license plates from many different states (california, Mississippi, Idaho, Arizona...)

Anyway, the RS4 i saw didn't look much different from the current V8 S4.

The upcoming '07 RS4 will cost in the $70k range. Like others have said it is not a turbo but a direct injection version of the 4.2L V8 in the current S4. There is no way it will only be $54k...that's what a modestly loaded S4 costs.

If I read you correctly, it sounds like the RS4 was already accelerating past you when you decided to downshift and 'catch up'. This has been addressed many times, but the bottom line is, it is VERY hard 'reel in' a car that is starts off with a significant mph advantage, and continues to accelerate... be it an RS4, another S2000 or even an econobox.

this thread just caught my eye on Google as I was just checking up on the new RS4, I saw one yesterday, in terms of 'sudden break way speed' the 2000 is always going to struggle, it takes practice to really know what gear you drop down to, along with blipping the throttle to rev match, great when you get it right, horrible when you don't.

S2k just doesn't have the torque to pull like that especially if something like the RS4 is just blazing past you.. The s2k wouldn't win in any consideration against an RS4 unless you have some forced induction going on.
