Fun drive home from work
Met a red AP2 on the way home tonight, I-71northbound. I pulled up next to him and give him a smile, but he was being antisocial. So I flew off his wing for a bit until he appeared to get annoyed and decided to take off. I let him go for a bit and then caught up again. We had a couple moments when the traffic cleared for a while and he really got on it (with the accompanying puffs of blue-ish smoke from his pipes) but Sheldon had no problems reeling him in. At first I thought he kept losing his nerve but then I realized he must be shifting.
It's so sad when AP2's hit 8K and have to roll off. I feel like that must suck.

The bluish smoke is probably a telling sign that the AP2 wasn't well maintained or tuned. And you can always tell when a good driver shifts...it should be crisp!
Anyway, from a roll its difficult for an AP1 to keep up with an AP2. My friend (AP1) is a way better driver than I am but he could never beat me from a roll even with the extra 1000 rpm. I think the gearing is better on the AP2 and we have better low to mid range pull. With that being said, the AP2 transmission with an AP1 engine would be my ideal combination though just for that 9k shifting privilege :-)

Yeah...a supercharger goes a long way toward removing the need to row through the gears.

There is more to it than just 10tq. We all know they "rate" the HP output of both motors the same but I have watched stockish S2Ks at King Motorsports' Dyno Days and the AP2s generally put down 10 or more RWHP than the AP1s. The rest of the drivetrain is far superior as well. Gearing, transmission housing, differential housing, synchros, etc. All a major improvement over the AP1. 9K is fun, I'll give you that but at the end of the day, I'll take the rest of the benefits of an AP2 over the higher rev. Too each their own.
