If two cars trap the same, that is their speed AT THE QUARTER MILE MARK. This means they will be travelling the same speed at that point in a 1/4 mile.

This is what matters in roll racing: aerodynamics, gearing, power to weight ratio, powerband, SHIFT SPEED! Drivetrain loss has NOTHING, repeat, nothing to do with it. You really think drivetrain loss due to how many wheels are being powered is more important than the gearing, how the gearing affects where in the powerband the car is after every shift, aerodynamics, and also how fast you shift?

Also, as an aside, turbo cars may or may not take time to build up boost after every shift. One of the reasons a GTR is so goddamn fast in a straightline is because it shifts so fast AND the turbos stay spooled INBETWEEN SHIFTS. Obviously supercharged cars don't suffer from this.
This.

I believe that racing from a roll gives a better idea of how a car makes power. It is a level playing field.
No it gives a better idea of how a car looses power (trough drivetrain).

Race a civic that traps the same speed as you and watch it pull away. You run a better time at the track but he beat you on a roll because of drivetrain loss.

Dude think about it. Why are 2 cars finishing the 1/4 mile at the same speed but one is getting there faster? Because of traction of the awd allows the 60ft to be lower this resulting in a better ET. An awd car looses it advantage on a roll race. You can go into aero dynamics and gearing all day but after so many yards it equals out and the overall faster car wins.

You realize you pretty much answered your own question, right? AWD wins because it gets off the line faster. But that has nothing to do with roll racing. NOTHING. How fast you get off the line has NOTHING to do with how fast you accelerate when already rolling. And vice versa!
