s2000 vs Boxtster s?
#1
want to settle a debate. i have read all the reviews of the s2000 versus the boxster and the s2000 beat the boxster in virtually all reviews. Anyone have any performance figures versus the boxster s? I think these cars are virtually identical. Interested in any info you have.
thanks,

This has been discussed many times before. Try using the search function to find some of the many previous posts about this. Also, this post will move to off topic soon as I believe all s2000 vs X posts are moved there (so be sure to look for previous vs Boxter posts there as well).

I am suggesting that the Porsche Boxter S is a easier car to drive than the S2000. An average Boxter S driver will probably beat an average S2000 driver on the street or on the track.
It's funny that you posted this topic because I tried to race one last night. It's funny how I never get to race the cars that are compared to the S2000 (Boxter S, M Roadster).
We were leaving a resteraunt and about to get onto the 59 south bound feeder. When I pull up perpendicular to the feeder, my friend with an Isuzu Rodeo swirves from the right lane into the left lane...uncovering a green Boxter S with some polished wheels (Isuzu guy knows I want to race one of these)!
The Boxter S guns it pretty hard on the feeder, and I follow without too much stress. But I could tell the Boxter S wasn't giving it full power
Better luck fishing next time.

Actually I remember taunting an M Roadster on Westhiemer one night by revving next to it. The driver and passenger looked over like I was crazy, or it might have been that they were admiring the S.
They were probably just thinking I was crazy.

I believe that S2000 can keep up with the BoxsterS on a good day but generally speaking the BoxsterS is quicker. Also, when you mess up in the S2000 you will lose badly while in the BoxsterS it will be much less noticable.
Also, locally I've seen the S2000 compared to Boxster2.7 and it lost ... S2000 was slower in the straight line and also, according to the magazine, did not handle anywhere as well. Here they don't even dream about comparing the S2000 to the BoxsterS ... obviously if it can't keep up with the 2.7 then the S is way out of it's league. Still sticking with magazines, these are the best local published number for BoxsterS & S2000:
- 0-100km/h - 5.70 vs 6.42
- 400m - 13.84 vs 14.56
According to this the BoxsterS is way quicker ... though, these are just magazines and they probably tested the S2000 on a 'slow' day (ie. air is bad). Also, they kept on melting the clutch and probably didn't launch it properly.
Personally, I believe that the S2000 is a lot closer to BoxsterS than these figures imply. Also, I know it's quicker than Boxster2.7 but at the same time I realize that S2000 can be reasonably slow when you don't get a lot of things right. Personally, I managed 6.15 for the 0-100km/h time and on a good say it can do sub 6 ... very close to the BoxsterS.
Also, on the track the S2000 is a lot closer to the BoxterS (and can even be quicker) than on an actual road. BoxsterS has a lot more usable power and it's very hard to be 'off power' in the BoxsterS while it's eazy to do in the S2000.

DavidM, Australian magazines seem not to be serious.
Here in France no Boxter 2.7 has been rated to be better than a S2000. And please believe me when I say that most of our magazines allways put german cars on the top of the podiums. The boxter S has been compared several times with our S2K. They were close, but the Boxter S has better torque and pull a little better at any RPM.
