Who else is attracted to the Miata ND and would get one if you lost your S2k?

A lot of Porsche replies (which is expected.. they're badass cars). But that's a whole other ballpark with its' super expensive maintenance, parts and repairs. No thanks. I'd rather get an NSX if i'd be spending that much

Miata ND 1:50.68

Compare with these times… (S2k 1:50.74)
Laguna Seca (post 1988) lap times - FastestLaps.com

And if your excuse is different driver or crappy track conditions for the S2k during those tests…then do a search right here on S2ki for common times for a stock S2k on Laguna Seca… same results, everyone says they're getting around a 1:50.

Lastly..check Speed Academy’s time (at their usual track) for stock Miata ND vs their Ass2000. They got a 1:26.84 in the ND with a sloppy and messy run (he said it still has "another 1 sec in it, at least" with a cleaner run). While their Ass2000 got a 1:31 with crappy AS tires, slipping clutch and stock suspension, and a 1:24.1 with super sticky 255 RS3 tires, Eibach sway bars and high-end Eibach coilovers.
(S2k 1:31.1)
(S2k with mods 1:24.1)
(ND sloppy run 1:26.84)

I love the S2k...but it honestly sounds like the ND is as fast as the S2k around the track.

One would hope so with nearly 8 years to work with.

Id expect better out of a platform that weighs roughly 500lb less. But its respectable for what it is, no doubt. Plenty of guys mod and track Miata's. The upside is your not nearly as heart broken when you leave the track and stuff it into a wall lol

Wat?

R-S3's are like steel compared to most all other 200TW tires. Would never describe R-S3's the way you have.

Well...compared to the stock Miata ND tires they definitely are ...which are only UHP tires (not even the best UHP tires at that).

If that ND had some Extreme tires (RE71r, RE11a, RS3, AD08r, ZII) it would easily shave 2 seconds. Add nice coilovers and maybe even swaybars to the ND (like what Speed Academy put on the Ass2000) to make the ND handle flat (and less "street" complying and "sway'ish"), will surely shave even more time.

Lol

Yeah..Honda was so ahead of its' time...NSX, S2k... even the old Integras, Civics, double wishbones, B-series, etc. All their engines are still relevant and as good as today's.

The Miata is a nice roadster, but it lacks the drama that the S2000 achieves. The S2000 is fun beyond its performance. Only the rare sports car actually manages to achieve this.

No, if my S2000 were lost I wouldn't replace it with a Miata. Elise perhaps, GT-R if I could afford it, Evo or WRX most likely...
