Default Broken knock sensor advice

Hey everyone, after a long battle with an electrical issue the cars up & running strong.. mostly. Noticed this last week while doing a valve adjustment that my knock sensor was broken off the plug is still attached to the top portion of the sensor, but the sensor is split. Must have bumped it while changing my starter, which was around 5 months ago. Just wondering what new damage I may have done with this sensor being broken? No CEL has come on for it, ever. I also noticed my gas mileage took a crap after the starter, could this be the cause? And lastly are there any preventive measures I should take at this point? Will be changing out the knock sensor next week.

Are you sure your CEL bulb is good? Broken knock sensor causes an instant CEL.

As far as I know, used to turn on from the fuel filler cap until I replaced it. Is there a way I could theoretically test that the light is working? The little pin of the knock sensor was still inserted, but the seal around it is broken (as in I can wiggle it around with my hand)

Edit: going to check if it still illuminates when the key is on, & hook up the computer to see if its throwing any codes

Just ran outside to check, the CEL illuminates with the key on, and the scanner came up with no codes.
