Angry High fuel use

Hi Guys,

I'm just new to this forum,

I put my 2001 S2000 in to have the injectors cleaned and seals replaced, since the work was done the fuel use has plummeted from 425km in town and 610km open roads to less then 250km in town haven't taken it for a long drive as I am not confident on what range I will get.

I have been told to wait and run at least 4 tanks of fuel through before I go any further can anyone else assist with this.

the work was conducted at a Honda dealer

You shouldn't do this by per-tank kilometers.

You should express the units in KM/Liter or Miles/Gallon.

Nobody knows when you fill your tank.

610km/tank could mean you fill up when your tank can take 40 liters or when your tank can take 5 liters.

610KM/tank sounds very high at any rate.

The fuel light normally turns when the tank has like 8 liters left. Total tank capacity is around 52 liters. Using those numbers comes out to 13.8KM/L. That's 34 miles/gallon.

I think you may be a bit off on your estimate.

Anyway, calculate KM/L thusly:

-Fill the tank.

-Reset the trip meter to 0.

-Drive as you normally would...until the tank is almost used up. About 3/4 empty.

-Go back to the same station and pump. Fill the tank.

Divide the KM on your trip meter by Liters filled.

Units of KM/L.

Hi B serious,

Thanks for the feed back,

Sorry I was not more clear with my problem,

I fill the car up when the fuel light comes on, each time I fill the tank it takes round 46-47 litres give or take a litre each time I fill up I reset my trip meter A to zero so I can track the distance i get out of a tank of fuel.

So prior to getting my injectors pulled and cleaned I would get around 425-430Kms out of 46-47 litres

Now I'm getting 250-260Kms out of 46-47 litres same city running

Now I have been told that the fuel consumption should return to normal I'm just seeing if anyone else has had this issue after having the injectors cleaned before I go pulling things apart to see what the dealership has missed

Thanks again for responding I hope this puts it in prospective for you

Your previous MPG was on the high end of "normal". about 9.2 KPL or 23MPG.

But your new MPG of 5.4 KPL is really alarmingly bad. Thats 13.5MPG.

You're not driving the car differently? Any CEL's on? Are you letting it idle or taking shorter than normal trips?

No this is the issue all this has changed since I had the injectors removed cleaned and seals replaced I have done less then 1000kms since the service I bit the bullet this morning and I'm taking it back to the dealership tomorrow for them to look into this

I was just hoping this was something someone else has encountered and could point me in the right direction to save this dealership getting their hands back on the car. I normally do all the service work myself but the city apartment I have now I just don't have a good clean car space and work area to do it myself which is very frustrating.
