Replacing intake cam with retainers
#11
Okay I got the valve cover off this weekend. Two questions: 1) how do the retainers & lobes look? 2) My buddy noticed a "line/scratch" on the rollers. Should i be concerned about this?

The only retainer that looks like it might not be 100% is the cylinder #1, valve #1 but there is a shadow over all the cotters so I can't judge. Consequently there looks to be some unusual wear on that roller as well. Hard to see cylinder #4.
The wear on the cams doesn't look unusual.
I made a video on what I believe to be the best way to inspect retainers.

Pictures are typically hard to see broken retainers, but yours look good.
Lines on the rollers are normal occurrence, no problem there. Cams look fine, all looks good.

Looks good.
This is how the keepers look on an obviously cracked retainer.

What I am amazed by is looking at that one it looks awful, obviously toast. But the rockers didn't seem to have been riding on the retainer like in the previously linked thread, yet the retainers in that instance didn't physically look nearly as bad
