This is what I have:


The photo isn't great, but mirrors are hard to shoot. You can see the small 1/4 scratch just below the divider line. It's not much, but it does catch a nail. There is also a tiny nick above the line if you look closely. My question is: where does the oil seal ride on this face? Will this scratch cause a leak or is it out of the way? I'm guessing it's close to the ring in the middle but my diff is down the road in another garage right now.

You should be fine. The seal rides closer to the lip.

If the groove doesn't catch a fingernail you'll be fine.
