soft top tray problem - won't go in place

Default soft top tray problem - won't go in place

Hi guys, so i am having this minour but very annoying problem. This rear tray piece is like this ever since i bought the car, i tried to fix it again but gave up last time, and i am giving it another try. No matter what i do, it doesn't want to align and slide in place. Previous owner has changed the soft top with the glass one, i guess something wasn't done right, but i can't seem to find what. Please look at the photo, both sides look like this, it sits fine at the center but on the sides. The side effect is that it rattles badly. Any idea what's wrong?

Looks like the upper lip is not correctly behind the black trim, look at the left plastic panel for reference.
It's was kind of a pain to get this panel in correctly but it can be done.

The lip is perfectly behind and inside the trims, both up and down, it fits perfect at the center, but at the sides it's pretty much impossible to make it fit right. It looks like it doesn't follow the curve of the trim it sits on

The red arrow points at what I think is a metal lip (can't check mine now cause it has hard top on) that your middle plastic piece should sit behind.
It doesn't look like it does from your picture but I guess that could be wrong.

I get you, the photo is deceiving you, it sits behind the lip in the photo. What you point with the arrow is not the metal lip, it's the pvc water drain behind it, the lip is higher

The water rail is lower than the arrow hehind the plastic insert. At the top of this forum are "stickies". Go to DIY Maintenance. Scroll down to heading "Body". The 9th post down describes replacing the OEM top with a Robbins top (one of two replacement tops common here). It's a bit of a jigsaw puzzle and are best to replace in a certain sequence.....yours was not replaced in the correct order. Done many tops.

You are right, i am saying this because i was working on this again today, and indeed it's not the water drain there, it's the back side of the metal black trim where the arrow is pointing on the above edited photo, it was my mistake. I also removed the spare wheel carpet cover to check the clips of the large tray/parcel, all are in position, cliped, and slid into position under the tray. There is no obvious reason it shouldn't fit right. I did notice that the right and left plastic trims/trays don't align with the clip holes visible from the trunk, so something is not right definetaly, but i don't see how this could create my problem. I guess the only way to be sure is to remove everything and reinstall, and make sure all clips and bolts are in position at the same time.

mine looks same, soft tops was just done. i have to go back there and fix it. waiting on cnew clips. ill update

FIXED. the back of the tray is held down by 4 white clips. mine was missing one on the right corner making the tray sit low and look just like the pic posted. i removed the tray trim to access the tray clips. made sure all four were snaped down. then reinstalled the tray trim and it all lines up perfect.

tip, remove the four front tray clips to get the tray to slide back so that the four white clips can snap down.
