Hey everyone,

I did a search on this topic and couldn't find anything.

I'm removing my softtop and replacing it with one that has a better rear window. I got it off last night but it took a lot of forcing to get it out because part of it doesn't clear the rollhoop plastic covers. I'm going to put the new one on today but I want to see if it was possible to remove them without any problems (I heard once you split them they never really go back)? If anyone has done this before, can you explain how to take them off and if you faced any problems getting them back on.

From what i heard, once you get them apart, you need to glue them together; otherwise, they won't stay together.

DO NOT split them. They were not meant to be separated. Removal of the plastic roll hoop covers requires some major interior disassembly. That's the real way they were meant to come off. Many of the adjacent interior panels must be removed first.

Once you separate them, it's nearly impossible to get them glued back together for a stock appearance. There is a fine metal wire that runs a bead between the two. Many have suspected this wire is heated which causes the two halves to weld/melt together.

Thanks for the help guys.... I already have most of the interior removed from that area... Are there any threads that discuss the removal of this part?

You can remove the roll hoops without taking the plastic off the hoops first. It requires removal of the package deck and the glove box first. You will also need to remove the rectangle flat panels wbehind the seats. The hoops are bolted down under there and will come out of the car with the plastic still on the hoops.
