Slowcrash answered already, people try to stop a leak with it instead of getting the proper oring seals. All it takes is one tiny piece of excess silicone to make its way into any of the small oil passages and it will fry the top end.

I wonder if 3/4 of a quart is even enough oil to reach the pickup in the pan...

Still haven't had a moment to get to the engine......but it just dawned on me the owner said after his oil change he had a CEL for the vtec solenoid and he replaced the gasket. I wonder if he just through silicone on it. Which clogged an oil passage, superheated the oil, and it just burnt off internal to the engine.
Thoughts? Seems plausible.

The burning you see is a direct result of camshaft to journal friction. The cams and journals got super hot. The damage from excess heat in this case is likely limited to just what you see. It is not enough heat to warp the head or anything.
