Now that I have a lift, oil changes are easy. I bought a specialized drain system. The best part is that it has a "filter" in the funnel, so if I drop the drain plug it doesn't get lost in the oil. In fact, I spin the plug off and let it fall into the filter. Less mess and no more burned fingers.
Our village has a drop off point for things line motor oil, electronics, paint, etc.

Our county has one. But you need to make an appointment between the hours of 9:00 and 3:00 weekdays. Hello!! most of us are at work then!!!
Used antifreeze is the biggest pain. The only place that will take it is the county recycling center. It tends to collect in the corner of my garage for several years before I break down and make an appointment on a vacation day.
On the plus side, Walmart gladly takes oil with no hassles. I've dropped off several gallons at a time. They have a shopping cart in the auto service area that you place the bottles in.

Guess I live in a progressive state, when it comes to recycling. There are multiple recycling locations all over the state for oil, paper, paint, etc. I don't change the oil in my cars, but use a manual siphon to suck the oil from the yard machines at the end of the season (which reminds me, it's time to do that!) Then, I just take it to the nearest recycling center and pour it into the collection barrel and it's done. I really thought this was common practice everywhere nowadays.
