Two I definitely would want to test:
Ford Focus RS (manual, 350hp!, 4-door, all wheel drive, $36k)
VW Golf R (manual, 292 hp, turbo 4-cylinder, 4-door, $37k)
Two others but likely too small:
Mini Cooper Works Hardtop (manual, 228 hp, 2-door, $36k)
Fiat 500 Abarth (5-speed manual, 2512 pounds, 2-door, $23k)

Go get a nice used Acura TL or TLX with a manual. My daughter has the 6 speed TL and absolutely loves it. I agree with her. (Acura no longer has new manual transmission cars)
Its a Honda too!

Of the 4 you mentioned the Civic would be my choice. However like Dave said check out the Focus and GolfR. They both got some good ratings. You have 3 years to check them out.

+1 had a CEL,and rough idle,on her Mini Cooper S,Saturday.
Off to the garage,this morning.
Have to change timing chain, sliders, and tensioner = $2000.00
This with 103,000 KMS.or roughly 60,000 MILES.
And,that's after a $4000.00 clutch job, last summer.(she drove her CRX SI 250,000+,kms.on the same clutch.)
Now,she's off to the Honda dealer,to check on the due date for the SI Coupe,6 speeds manual.

Well, with your BMW disappointment I definitely would not go near an Audi. That is sure to disappoint you on reliability. Nice cars to drive, though.
I suspect the Mini would be a more BMW experience (less than ideal) and at least suspect the Fiat may be the same but I have no real feedback on Fiat 500 based stuff.

I would suggest you add the Honda Accord Touring sedan to the list
I have a '11 coupe with the V6 and it is very quick.
Zero issues since I bought it and looks terrific inside and out.
If you drive long distances it is a wonderful cruiser as well.
