I've got about 80 trees around my house but I rent and my landlord has a service do the leaf cleanup. I do however have to deal with pine needles getting all over both cars which is a PITA.

I just us my iPod with earbuds and conventional shop hearing protectors (the kind that looks like music headphones). The combination works remarkably well. I even take this on airplanes when I travel.

I was thinking of getting a pair of Bose noise cancelling headphones. They work very well and the sound is great, but they're very expensive and I'd probably damage them when I use the leaf blower.

I definitely don’t hand rake. I use a combination of my 5hp Honda walk behind leaf blower, Stihl hand blower, and a John Deere riding mower with medium lift blades. For years I did use mulch blades but I get so many leaves it would stall the mower plus I sent way too much time mulching. Thankfully, I have woods I can blow the leaves into but even that gets difficult when they get stacked up above three feet.

I didn’t mention the huge Eastern White Pine that sheds its needles but blow then back into the flower garden in lieu of mulch.

It got down to 28 degrees last night and the Maples have finally started to drop.

I've spent an hour every other day this week mulching leaves in the yard. Spent about 4 hours today with a blower to clean out the gardens and then mulched them with the mower. The pain is the leaves that collect around pool fence. The fence is landscaped inside and out with evergreens.

For about the fourth time this fall, spent 2+ hours blowing and vacuuming leaves wearing these headphones connected to my iPhone. Almost makes the job pleasurable! Ain't technology wonderful? Specially when I can connect to my house wifi router and listen to a radio station in my home town back in North Carolina that broadcasts over the internet. Sweet!!!

After the stump dries out in a year or so, Drill large holes deep into it and let kerosine soak in. Torch it off. Once the fire "goes out" the edges will still be glowing. It takes about a week depending on the stump but the fire (embers) will slowly consume the entire trunk including the roots underground. It will look as if the stump was "raptured" right out of there.

There used to be a product just for this that was added to the stump in the holes with water and after a week you did the kerosine thing but that was a long time ago.
