s2000 question rubber guard
Hey guys what is your opinion on what I should do with that little rubber strip that goes over the rear wheel quarter panel. Should I take it off or leave it? Why did they even put that there to keep out water?

I took them off because it collects dirt and moisture, which some have reported is enough to cause rust in that area. As for the original reason why Honda put them there in the first place, who knows? Maybe they were afraid someone would cut themselves on the exposed lip and weighed the cost of litigation vs 2 pieces of rubber.

50/50, eh? Maximize your chances and do one side only! You're guaranteed to be right half of the time.
Seriously though, you can see how dirty it is once you pull it off. You can always reinstall it if you prefer.

I from NJ too. And ok ill do as you say and take it off and clean it. And I live near englishtown, you know where that is?

Remove it.
To protect from nicks, you can apply vinyl wrap, plastidip, epoxy, undercoat, or a combination of any of those.
Later Hondas do not come with the rubber strip. They have a seam sealer and thicker paint in that area.
I epoxy coat the lip, and then topcoat it with rubberized undercoating spray. Mask the fenders and most of the car before doing this. Also thoroughly clean it before doing this. Use a pressure washer and old crappy wash mitt and/or wheel brush, and get all the dirt from above, as well as the lip surface.
I've done this on my daily driven cars that see snow....and my S2000 which never sees snow...but has folded fender lips.

Leave it on and just remove and clean, I have 0 probs with any of my Honda"s doing this and still fresh under there

I'm going to make it a regular thing to remove, clean, and replace. Probably yearly prior to winter storage.
This seems like a good balance between keeping the original intended purpose, and not suffering the adverse side effects. Plus it keeps the car closer to original.
We'll see how it goes. Maybe I'll change my tune once I try it.
