Default Cat - rattling internals

So, my cat has decided to start disintegrating. There's a metallic rattle that resonates around 1,500rpm and 4,500rpm, that sounds like the car is broken, but it's definitely the cat internals, and not the heat shield.
I have the following options:
1. Put up with it
2. New OEM cat
3. High flow cat (thinking either Berk, or from Tegiwa)
4. or test pipe
I've currently got an Apexi N1 single exit cat back exhaust fitted which sound absolutely amazing.
Any thoughts / ideas / experiences gladly welcome.

Cheers

Had the same problem with mine. I ordered a J's testpipe to go with the J's 60 RS dual system, very nice sound and almost no drone at all.
Not sure what it would sound like on your single exhaust though. I know a single J's with OEM cat can be very loud, so I wouldn't recommend it (unless you like very loud exhausts).

If you get a test pipe you will still need a CAT for the MOT, A high flow usually gets away with it if it's hot enough. If you don't want the faff there are non OEM cats out there.

I had this same situation, and didn't fancy swallowing the costs of a replacement OEM, so replaced with a 63.5mm (size for standard exhaust) Berk HFC from Tarmac Sportz

http://www.tarmacsportz.co.uk/GB/Ber...-HFC-MET_.aspx

Its been through one of two MOT's since without issue.

EDIT - just seen you've got an Apexi. Perhaps you'll need the 70mm...

i would say the berk high flow, but after owning one, passing my first mot and failing the second, and reading lots of other people saying the same sort of thing, i would steer clear and pick up a cheap oem second hand one off ebay.

Yes you will get others saying berk has been perfect best thing on earth etc... but their are others that have not been that lucky...

Do the people who have failed with a Berk still have the secondary air pump?
