Default Which Head Unit

I'm currently running with std Honda head unit with uprated speakers + a Kenwood 6cd changer and am thinking about upgrading the head unit.

Is it only Alpine that makes the interface to the dash controls? If so, which unit do I start at?

Alpine do their own adaptor - KCE-865B. But you can hook-up lots of others.

Check out Lucid Automotive. He's a site sponsor, and carries stuff for hooking up heaunits and more. Have a browse there, then use what you find in the search engine, and have a look in the electronics forum.

The 7893r with the KCE-865B adaptor seems to be the Alpine unit of choice historically - it is mp3 compatible. Dunno whether it has been superceded now - I hope not since I just bought nijbuck's head unit when he had to sell his car and haven't even got around to fitting it yet!

The only drawback is that you may not be able to use your CD changer with it - and nor for that matter will I, since I've also got the standard unit, which I'm pretty sure won't work with the 7893.

I believe that the 7893R has been supersceded by the CDA9812RR (Red Illumination) and/or CDA9812RB (Silver / Blue Illumination)

But with 10 albums per disc....who needs a changer! Not us Alpine heads.

....and think of the summers of the past
adjust the base and let the Alpine blast
pop in my CD and let me run a rhyme
and put your car on cruise and lay back cause this is summertime ......

i have a 9812 with red illumination and it looks really cool with the red interior.....and i can confirm the folder navigation works a treat.

Guys, although you have easier access to the hardwire-ready Alpines and adapters over there, you will still not have the same folder and track navigation functionality as with my controller or Lucids controller. The KCE adapter will give you "next track" capability, but Qube's Audio Control and Lucid's DCI will give you folder up, folder down, and previous track functionality as well. Just a thought!

I'm not at home to check for myself in the manual, and I haven't got around to looking for the answer before now - does the 7893 have a random track facility so i can just tell it play whatever it likes?
