This is pretty cool. For the average user, the new mounting position should work fine.

Now, I don't mean to offend here at all, but when you get right down to it, it will slightly reduce radar distance performance and probably significantly reduces laser performance. Both radar and laser are line of sight dependent for best performance. It's simply trigonometry that the higher the unit is mounted, the further it will detect a source.

Also pertaining to line of sight performance, the radar signal is blocked by anything metallic. Anyone that has a V1 (I've had radar detectors since 1978, and the V1 since it came out), knows what happens when a car moves between the detector and the radar source. Signal strength dramatically decreases. Heck, you can even put your hand in front of the detector and see signal strength decrease. I bring this up because at the spot you have it, parts of the car such as the A-pillars, passengers heads, the rear view mirror and other things will block the signal and decrease signal strength.

Laser detection is exactly dependent on line of sight, and there are debates as to whether the detector should be mounted up high to detect reflected or inadvertent signals, or if it should be as close as possible to the plane of the front bumper, where the officer will aim the laser. Regardless, your test of shining an infrared light at it is not valid. All it shows is that the laser sensor is not broken.

Again, I mean no offense, and I'm sure for the average user the radar performance will be acceptable, but to suggest that there is no degradation is incorrect.

Great input, thank you for chiming in!

Of course with radar there is no set 100% full proof way as there are numerous studies out there. This is just a great solution that has worked for us and many of our customers in the past.

As with any modification there are compromises and good/bad points.

cheers!

thanks fellas for all the orders!

Pm's replied

These are pretty popular as they serve a dual purpose of both functionality and looks. If you have questions or wish to get a set on order please let us know as they literally fly off the shelves.
