Default Help with CEL code

Just had the CEL light come on and got the codes.

P0304 which is misfire cylinder 4 and
Pending code P1399 for which I can't find any information in the FAQ here, but was able to find something Honda related on the web

Honda does not supply a diagnostic flow chart for this code. P1399 is a random misfire code and Honda/Acura has reported for various models that this could be caused by clogged EGR ports. In addition there is the possibility that the valve cleareance specification may be out of range
So any idea ?

Before Christmas I was getting misfire on cylinder 3, so I put some new plugs in and that seemed to solve the issue for around 4 months, but now I have these new codes.

As a bit of background information, when I was getting the cylinder 3 misfire codes previously and on this occasion today, both occurred after I had been doing some very hard driving, then switched the car off for no more than 30 minutes and then got in again to drive away. The light seemed to come on almost instantaneously when I started it up for the second time.

MB to the rescue !!!

Hola

Are you sure it's 1399?

I think 1399 is a random misfire code. From what I read it can point to valve clearance issues.

I'd reset, see if it comes back. If it does then check clearnaces and all the usual (in my sig)

Yes definitely 1399, I've also just edited my post to add some extra background information.

Cheers.

I would guess clearances by your description and the code. If they get tight then it could throw a misfire.

I'd just see if it comes back.

When were your clearances last done?

Another thing to check is that the plugs are all ok and the recall has been done, given all the recent issues with them popping out and stripping threads!

Check the state of your plugs too.

Make sure someone decent checks your valve clearances.

New plugs went in around 4 months ago Ian so I doubt it would be that, but worth a check.

Just looked at my service receipts and according to Alan Day Southampton the valve clearances were checked and adjusted at my last service which was last month.

Hmm this could be interesting, my bet is that the feckers didn't do it.

Also looking at the service sheet they have crossed through "replace air cleaner element". Would I be right in thinking that this is the pollen filter ?

I wonder what we be the best way to tackle this ?

Either they did it and worsened it, or not at all.

Air cleaner element is the main air filter.

I'd tell them you are getting misfire codes which you are relaibly informed by members of a knowledgeable community, that it's a valve clearance issue and you want it looked at

Even if it's not that, its a good argument to get them to do it FOC
