Valve stem retainer will have failed due to an over rev earlier in the engines life.

This, although it wasn't earlier in the engines life; it was when I money shifted a week after purchasing the car.

Despite the fact you've had shitty luck I like threads like this where people are gong the extra mile to maintain these cars

my arse end was a feckin mess years ago. I need to whip the bumper off and inspect it actually. Got my crash bar powder coated

The garage washed underneath the car to remove any dirt and better assess the situation. The rear inner arches are completely cream crackered. I have a plan which involves (very modest) overfenders, however I still haven't made a final decision so for now these are being left alone.





Here's some photos of the progress they're making with the other affected areas:



















As of writing this post, the car is still at the garage waiting to have the engine and gearbox removed. It'll then be brought back home and put on axle stands so that we can start pulling apart the suspension and subframes.

At least there is a good lip on the arches to spot weld too if needed,
what is your overhead welding skills like !! get a welder and DIY

No chance, it would probably end up worse than it is now!
