S2000 Insurance

I must live in a much rougher area than I thought! I'm looking at about £500 renewal with admiral and I'm 30 with 10 years ncb to use for the S2000 Think Business Use kills me though - don't actually use it for Business really but part of the criteria for my car allowance is that I need to have it.
I also looked at putting business use on the S last year but kept it to my run about as it made the insurance nearly double on the S where as it made no difference to the Polo.

Wow, I'm 35 live in Sussex. No NCB cos i use it on my other car. Professional driver with PCV and HGV and i pay £290 for my s2k with no voluntary excess on 5000 miles a year. You are paying way way too much. Just get on confused.com and meerkats!

I'm a similar age and i renewed last October with Churchill for £170 less £25 cashback via Quidco (confirmed today!) so £145 nett. I do have max NCB and i have restricted my mileage to 2000/yr. Don't know if the latter makes much difference. Excess is £650. Quidco (and TCB) have a £25 cashback comparison facility. Alternatively you can just link from their site to a number of insurers for a maximum of about £50 cashback. One way or another i almost always use a cashback site for home and motor insurance.

I think I will be going back to my original/new insurers I've tried the compare sights etc some are cheaper but the cheaper ones seem to get a lot of bad reviews (extra payments and unhelpful staff).
Thanks for your help

As i said, i'm not sure if the mileage restriction made a huge difference to the premium.
I tend to go for a large excess because i would only make a claim if i had a big shunt: claiming for small amounts tends to be uneconomical given the many years that one's NCB takes to recover. Happily this is merely a principle and not one i've had to test for decades :-)
OP - I would definately try a quote or two from positively-reviewed companies (if you can find any!) via one of the cashback sites.

I can't even get as low as £290 with 10+ years NCB, similar age as you. But I guess a couple of mods stop the mainstream insurers for quoting less than silly money
