They keep the airflow to the tyres a bit smoother, you know how important the tyres are to the S.
When I got my S one of the front ones was missing, didn't feel right without it.

JDM ones don't have them just the front ones, i wonder is it due to them being restricted though....

While everyone may have the mudflaps, mine are attached to strakes which idont beleive were standard.I would have to screw the self tapper through the skirt and the mudflap if i keep the skirt at full length and the skirt would be totally uneven, ive tried removing the mudflap from the strake, fix the skirt on and then reattach the mudflap but this doesnt work either.Either i have different mudflaps or my mudflaps and strake combo is causing the issue, just to add the mudflaps run along the whole length of the strakes so i might just chop the skirt where the two meet.Moving the skirt forward abit doesnt help and no im not putting the skirts on backwards.

Gary,

A few of the locals to you here in NI have this done. I know some of them are only on this forum periodically. Might be an idea to use the FB page OR......the regular S2000 Cars n Coffee meet. It is on this Monday evening so would probably give you the best opportunity to ask and see how some of the guys have done this.
