Costco are now selling Goodyear's and I'd like to replace my Continentals on the front as they're getting low, but I've got brand new F1 ASY2's on the rear fitted by the previous owner.

I'm well aware of the "soft sidewall" debate and don't wish to kick that off again, I just want to make both axles are evenly matched, as I suspect this is the real underlying issue.

Graeme!

Just PMed... Have been thinking of the same question as you have here - assy 2s vs assy 3s.... (should have looked here!)

I didn't realize Costco are now selling goodyears, will need to look into that as my fronts need changing (prob after winter now as the car is getting close to being hibernated).

If anyone has any info on the differences between assy 2s and 3s that would be great... My quick searching on the web suggests a slightly less wearing rubber compound but with equal or better grip, fuel etc etc... My assumption is if the fuel economy is equal or better, the side walls of the 3s will be similar to the 2s? Thoughts?

Just adding a little knowledge (opinion) to the thread:

Have recently changed to Michelin Pilot Sport 4s. Massively impressed! Moved on from Hankook Ventus V12s, which were on the wheels when I bought them, and the PS4s are on a different level. Both dry and wet grip has improved dramatically and the car corners much faster and with more feel. Another bonus is that despite being the exact same size as the V12s, my car no longer scrapes when negotiating the speed bumps in the town next to me. Bonus!

Have now switched back to the stock wheels for the winter and these have Bridgestone RE050s. My god, they feel terrible! Just feels like they are pancake flat despite being the same size as the PS4s and at correct inflation. Perhaps the stock wheels being heavier than my BBSs can explain this but I am going to dial a bit more softness into the dampers as the car is rattling about. The aforementioned speed bumps are now taken at an agonisingly slow speed! Grip has gone to pot and I have no confidence cornering at anything approaching speed. Temperatures have dropped quite a bit since putting these on which may partially explain this? And tyre roar is ridiculous! Got me considering winter tyres for the first time...

currently running re002 fronts and s001 rears on my stock 17", after 10k miles the s001's are getting close to the wear marker, maybe 1-2k miles left on them. Do i replace the rears with s001's again or are their better alternatives? dont fancy changing fronts as they have probably 10k miles left in them.

For a long time I was running with Asymmetric 2s on the back of the car and Asymmetric 3s on the front. The tyres were pretty similar in looks and grip.

Just over a week ago I had a pair of Asymmetric 3s installed on the back and these are completely different to the Asymmetric 3s on the front, they have a softer sidewall and felt really weird for the first 150 miles. They seem a bit better now but maybe that is me just getting used to them.

One thing that concerns me is that they do not appear to have any 'inside' or 'outside' markings on the tyres.

I've been on this combo for around 1000 miles now. the fronts felt so weird at 32 psi (now at 30psi and much better), coming form re050, they felt very wandery.... weird!

How did you find them???

Did you go for the XL Asymmetric 3's? How are they feeling a few weeks on?

I havent got much to compare them with, when i bought my car the RE050 that were on were mecedes spec, and my alignment was out, Tbh i dont know what to think of them, like you i would say they do feel wandery and dont inspire too much confidence

but other than replacing the rears again with s001's i dont know what to do.

black circles seem to have the honda spec reo50 back in stock, and are cheaper than the s001, but im not sure if it would be a good idea to run them with the reo002 fronts i have.

Thanks for that news on the RE050 Mz tyres. Just ordered a pair of rear tyres as the fronts are hardly worn.

No it wasn't the XL version and they still feel weird compared to any other rear tyre I have had on the car. I regret not sticking with the Asymmetric 2s

How wide can you go on the rear before rubbing. I want to stay with 17" wheels but thinking about custom widths and curious as to how wide you can go without having to modify arches or get excessive tyre sticking out.
