I was only £25 to get the crash bar sand blasted and powder coated, well worth it.

I also treated the front cross beam. Not removed the front bumper, is there much under that needs protected?

As I say, there rear is what shocked me the most! Arches etc were all fine.

What products did you use to treat the rust and coat the body?

Nice work. Aside from the crash bar and front beam, what else would you advise and recommend to do? Could I ask where you sandblasted and power coated it? DIY or a garage? What materials are required? Thanks

+1 for what stuff you used, I have a slight rust issue going on at the moment

My next job is to drop the rear sub frame down and clean the underside of the car. Then I can look at doing the under sealing. (after I have my new wheel arch panels fitted)

I would also be interested in what products you used.
I was amazed last year when i took the rear bumper off and found a small quarry buried inside I want to revisit the front and rear and treat all the rust properly as i only had time to apply a heavy coat of grease to prevent the inevitable last year !
Previous owner did a lot of motorway miles..

I was originally just wanting to protect my arches, but then OCD kicked and ended up doing everything. I would say the worst part on the car, which I don't think the pro's will do in a few hours, was behind the rear bumper. I had the crash bar powder coated,as it was an awful state, also took the opportunity to fix the wonky number plate holder and then treat the rest of the area. Car has only done 50k since 2005, but has lived in Scotland for half its life.

What did you use?
I know you can get underseal with waxoyl in both spray can and brush on from fleabay for not that much! Just wondered which would be best?

This is the stuff you all need. Goes on great and does exactly what you want it to do.

As a serial MX5 owner I know all about rust Having bought the MX5 / Small car kit from these guys when I did my current car, I would recommend going for the large kit so you can be really thorough.

OP I am in the same boat as you, looking to rustproof but going the DIY route. A lot of people seem to be highly recommending Bilt-Hamber products; never used an rust proofing but I can vouch for their detailing products - they really are good! Also, over at DetailingWorld theres a couple of posts about rust proofing and they guys there used BH. The guys on that forum are EXTREME about their cars, so I don't think you'd be going far wrong with their recommendation!

Here's one of the posts about Dynax S50 which appears to be a fairly solid product: Rust never sleeps - the Dynax S-50 thread. - Detailing World
