Winter tyres
Probably a topic that has been used quite a bit on here but I've just got a quick question. I'm wanting to get winter tyres for 16" OEM wheels should I go for tyres all the same size? or should i go for wider wheels like standard set up?
I'm sure I've read somewhere someone using 205/55R16 on all 4 wheels but can't find the post and i can't remember if they were OEM wheels or not.

Just go standard size but be aware you'll turn the handling a bit spongebob in anything above about 5 degrees. If you're a bit drifty ( Mr Graves ) they are great fun. I run winter tyres on both the S2000 and the Aygo and highly reccomend them.

Thanks I'll go with standard sizes, to confirm is that 205/55/R16 on front and 225/50/R16 on rear?
I'm not even sure if it would be possible for 205/55s to go on the rear anyway due to the wider wheels

I personally wouldn't use the s2000 in winter if at all possible. I ran it in the cold for a couple of years with Nokian winter tyres on it and it was pretty terrifying! Park it up and buy a 400 quid micra or something (less than the cost of decent winter tyres) and don't let your motor be a winter write off statistic.

I drove mine in snow with winter tyres on and it was hilarious - not sure i'd ever call it terrifying. Trying to drive it in the winter like you do in summer would make it terrifying but then you'd be a fool doing foolish things.
Cheap cars are not cheap - they need fixing and they are usually shit in at least one area.
Buy a decent small car and run it as an economical 2nd one if you absolutely can't use the S2000.

Tried to drive mine when I first got it with some Goodyear ditch finders on it, in the first bit of snow seen in Cornwall for years. I got 200 yards to the end of my road and it took 1/2 hour to get it back again, it was hilarious!

Once had a strange one with the 86's winters; it just turned the icy snow into pellets (a bit like those bran cereals) and they acted like marbles under it.
Took ages to get it to the end of the road.
But it's great fun on them! Like a Mk 2 Escort, in fact. Seriously retro handling.
Summer tyres are a bit of a pain ATM; the Leg End's Yokos need warming up for a few miles and then it's great. Forget and it understeers like an Audi...or a Marina, only almost twice the mass.

I've just put some winters under the m3 and even with the relatively warm but wet road this morning (8°) they felt much grippier than my MPSS summer tyres.
Feels a bit less confident at higher speed though but I'm sure they'll serve a purpose when it gets colder.
