Thumbs up Ripped softtop - having fun dealing with ICBC

hey everyone, it's been a while since i've been around. so a year and a half ago, my top got slashed and i've just gotten around to getting it replaced. icbc inspected it and i was given $1000 for the softtop itself with an additionl $600 for labour.

honda's told me that OEM will run $1700 for the plastic window top (MY01) so their hands are tied in getting me a replacement. my question is: for other people who've had their tops replaced, have you been able to get an OEM one? i'm thinking about the big picture here and whenever i sell my car, i can see someone (dealership especially) docking my resale value a bit if the softtop isn't factory spec.

i even tried arguing that depreciation (i was charged 10%) shouldn't apply to the labour but lost that battle.

if anyone has any experiences dealing with ICBC for the same reasons i'd love to hear about it. thanks!

Why not replace with a hardtop?

that was my original idea but cost was an issue. i thought the $2000 one from hardtopguy was still available, but now i can only find them going for $3k (OEM). i like the style of the mugen FRP - there's no insulation on this inside of them is there?

Hey Joe! It has been a while... I think some people have ordered MY 02 tops (for their MY 01 cars) from hartop guy (with the glass window) and then have had them installed. I thought the cost was around $1500. Would that be an option or would ICBC not pay if you went that route???

sean, thanks a lot! i checked hardtopguy's site again for the soft top and found a MY01 for 775 and MY02 for only 795! (cheap because it doesn't include the frame) i'm gonna run this by icbc/honda and see if i can get it done this way

i'm gonna have to come out to one of the meets these days, i don't recognize most of the names aside from yours

Sounds like ICBC is giving everyone the same story. My top was slashed and they offered me an aftermarket top not an OEM. So I called up hardtopguy for a quote for an OEM top and it was roughly the same amount as ICBC was going to pay. I called up ICBC and asked if I could order an OEM top from the US and they were ok with that. Depreciation was taken off my top as well, despite the adjuster commenting on how new my top was! What a joke...

If ICBC doesn't have a soft top in the wreckers and they're paying for a new one minus depreciation, all you have to do is ask for the full cash settlement and order it from someone else.

I had to go this route when dealing with ICBC for my aftermarket wheel. The one rim i needed was discontinued in BC but still availabe in US. ICBC is not allowed to purchase parts outside of BC, so i took the cash settlement and purchased them myself down south. I'm guessing the same thing applies with the soft top...
