Default Seat locks

Theft of seats seems to be a problem in some areas south of the border, is it an issue up here?

Anyone puchased from Kodokan?

It's generally not a problem here, at least not that I know of. Half the owners I know are running aftermarket seats anyways.

I haven't heard of anyone losing their seats in Canada, but I decided to install a set of security bolts just in case. Contact 'cinaibur' in the US to see if he has any sets left. You can search the forums for "anti-theft seat bolts" to find him.

You get four bolts that replace the front stock bolts (the rear bolts are a different size), plus a special key that fits a standard socket wrench. Replacing the bolts was drop-dead easy.

It's best to have a US address because he might not ship to Canada (I borrowed an address from a friend who shall remain nameless). He is a good vendor, no issues and quick replies to my questions.

^hey Chuck, I would be wary about using those bolts provided by cinaibur, I'm not sure they are strong enough to keep you safe enough should an accident happen.

Look at the last post: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/111...-bolts-review/

Okay, Chuck, now I know those locks aren't safe.

Very interesting info. Nice catch, Al !

I was not part of the first buy, and Tim did originally mention the second-buy bolts were not the same but I forget what the difference was. Unfortunately he had already shipped my bolts before he discovered the real problem, so I didn't get an email cancelling my order.

What I don't understand is why I didn't at least get a warning message to not use the bolts ... had that been the case I might have been willing to forgive the expense and call it a day.

It's difficult to tell if the material is stainless steel, but if it is, these bolts would definitely not be as strong as the OEM alloy.

I did keep the OEM bolts, which have a much thinner captive washer than the security bolts. But what really counts is the alloy composition.

Perhaps it's time to simply write off a $60 misadventure

Yeah, it sucks, he definitely should have notified everyone that bought his bolts. Luckily Robocopy created this thread. Your safety > $60!

Thanks Robocopy and Al !

I'd be interested to know what you find regarding the McGuard seat bolts. If they meet safety spec, I might re-invest in a set but this time with a bit of caution

I see that the Company lists CdnTire and Lordco as dealers, but I doubt they carry the seat bolt kits. Couldn't find the kits on the McGuard web site either (but the selection of wheel locks is impressive).
