I'm in. I've always liked a five spoke wheel, from the Cragar S/S on my first car, Konig's (forgot the design name) on my Integra during my 20's, to the OEM on my AP1. I've considered going with a 17' set-up over the years but all the decent ones are quite expensive, I'd rather spend the money on other goodies like tires. I have always ran the S-02 on my stock wheels because I consider them an excellent street tire that I have grown accustomed to. I was actually crazy enough to pay cash for a used set of AP1 wheels to put race rubber on. Then I scuffed them up and had a friend rattle-can them a bronze that looks amazing with the right amount of brake dust and road grime. If I ever have a couple grand or so just lying around, I might buy a brand new set of OE CR rims or something with RAYS written on them, maybe. For now, I do love the classic look of the AP1 wheels, and the best part is their already paid for. Here are a couple of pics, first one is stock ride height, the second after lowering 1". Check out that crazy fender gap
I also like 5 spoke wheels, I had a set of ap2v3 rims which are very nice too, but they always felt heavy to me , so I made the change to lightweight 16's. A lot of racers still run 16 inch rims, so they can work well if you have the right setup.

i have 2 sets of Ap1 wheels and 1 set of Ap2v1 wheels.
Clean Ap1 w/ OEM Tires
Scuffed Ap1 w/ Winter Tire
Clean Ap1v1 w/ TBD - haven't put them on the car yet and debating on 215/245, 215/255, or 225/255
Maybe I'll stay Ap1!!!!

I am well aware, that an Ap2 wheel/tire upgrade, is one of the easiest, fastest and cheapest ways to improve handling, add much more grip, more tire choices, as well as modernize appearance, for an Ap1 (pretty obvious). But, I am wondering who here actually does Not (ever) plan to upgrade to 17" Ap2/aftermarket wheels and actually loves their small 16" more?
It's easy to find some Ap2 wheels locally for $400-600 in good condition. But, I am thinking of just sticking with the Ap1 wheels. Reasons:
- Keep it true original, oem and nostalgic
- Looks much more low-pro, incog, cheaper and sleeper (towards police, general public and also thieves).
- Smaller 16" wheels have their own "cool" factor going on by looking more "old-school" (like say small wheels on older jdm cars, ae86, old Miata, an old British roadster, etc.)
- They remind me of old Mugen RNR wheels
- Not sure if they're lighter. I think I've read the bigger Ap2 are actually lighter
- Smaller width for sure has more speed and less drag on long straights and maybe more nimble/sensitive/responsive steering-feel (I believe the wider tires you go, the more "numb" it feels..no?)
So..who here loves their tiny Ap1 wheels and doesn't ever plan to upgrade to Ap2 nor aftermarket wheels?

Rear Ap2v1 20.5 lbs
Rear Ap2v2 22.x lbs
U will feel some sluggishness going from Ap1s to heavier Ap2v2s. Going on first hand info.

Good info (just add respective tire's weight specs). I didn't know the v1 and v2 weighed that much differently. Now I know not to buy them. I wonder how much the 5-spoke v3 weighs.

I've had usdm ap1 rims, ap2v2 rims, ap2v3 rims, and now on JDM ap1 BBS rims. I also felt a bit sluggishness going up to the ap2 rims and tires. The tires weigh more in addition to the rims, and the weight is spread further away from the center of the hub which also adds into the equation.
I believe ap2v3 rims weigh slightly more than ap2v2 rims, like right around 23 lbs.
JDM Ap1 rims at 12-13 lbs offer a big savings. You really notice the change when removing the rims and tires, they are so much easier to mount on the hubs, lol.

If I ever went aftermarket wheels, I think I would probably go 16" forged, since they usually hover in the 10-13lbs range. Maybe old 16" Desmond Regamaster/Spoon or TE37. These TWS T-66F would be sweet too: http://www.tws-forged.com/tws_t66-f.html

My 18" SSR Comps weigh 9-11 lbs LESS then the OEM 16" Ap1 wheel/tire combo. U can have your cake and eat it too.
Thinking about picking up a set of 16" SSR Comps for more weight savings.
Almost 30lbs saved with the 16s if I run Star Specs in OEM Ap1 sizes.
