Default Continental DW Discontinued, Replacement?

Hello folks,

I have noticed the [amazing] Contintental DW is no longer available on Tirerack. And in writing this post, I answered my own question:

When will this be released? TBD: Feb 2017

Be cool to see what this tyre can do, though. The MPSS is aging. Hopefully, this can be some sort of replacement.

Already used in this year's FF Battle. Can't take 100% stock in what people are saying b/c free tires/event sponsored by Continental & Motor Trend was definitely given some Continental love for the video. I'm a bit off-put by the move down to UHP rather than staying in the Max class. I wish the PSS' replacement would be offered in 17/18 sizes this year, in addition to the 19/20 they've committed to.

I wonder if it'll be "mushy" and have soft sidewalls like their original DW. If so, I'll stick with the new Firehawk Indy 500 (which have firm sidewalls for very direct and precise handling).

The ExtremeContact Sport is supposed to have stiffer sidewalls than the DW tires.

The DW was a terrible performance tire. Main advantages were that it was extremely cheap, rode extremely soft and it had safe rain performance when new. I had a set of 245/45/17s for my Accord and the sidewalls were so floppy that they were feathered and down to the cords on the edges pretty quickly with just street driving, even when running 40 psi cold. Only offered a moderate improvement in performance over 205/60/16 720 treadwear all-seasons by Continental, and the steering feel was better with the passenger-car Continental all-seasons, even on 16 inch wheels instead of 17s. The DW was always a sporty-looking tire, not a sporty tire.

For ~300 treadwear summer tires, I would go with BFG Sport Comp 2. Excellent response, very predictable, and solid dry and wet grip.

SportComp2 is a good tire (it is after all, what Skip Barber Racing School and Ford Racing School uses).
But there's a new kid on the block: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=217

I wonder if Skip Barber will make the switch.

For those not familiar with tire performance groups, "Ultra" high performance tires are third tier tires, below Extreme and Max.

^How do those tires compare to the PSS? I've been considering the FI500. Car gets about 10,000 miles a year with 6-10 autocrosses and 1-3 track days.
