I'm curious how many here have had their forged wheels powder coated. Are you happy with the results?

I'm about to have mine done, (Volk CE28s), and I feel a bit uneasy because it seems almost impossible to know exactly what they will look like in the end. There is a lot of guess work it seems about whether certain powders and application techniques will produce a finish that we have in our mind's eye or that is depicted in pictures of other wheels in various lighting conditions etc. There is a bit of a leap of faith involved. An unhappy outcome will likely mean an expensive fix.

If your concern is color/finish, why not go to some powdercoaters in your area? The shop that has done all my work has a giant wall of metal swatches. They did that so you could see exactly what it looks like.

Here's a set of LE28 that I had powdercoated in Bengal Silver with no clear coat. There's a new Ti Silver CE28 in one of the photos for reference, the Bengal Silver is a little darker than the Volk finish.

S2ka - your wheels look great. Tell me, when you say "Bengal Silver," what company makes a powder called "Bengal Silver"? If I can find that powder I might use it. I have a sebring silver s2k and I like the look of that color on a sebring silver car. Also, is there a clear coat on top of the Bengal Silver? What clear coat?

The color I am leaning toward right now is "super chrome" base with "clear vision" top coat from prismatic powders. The color is almost a chrome look. See here for a similar wheel in this color https://www.prismaticpowders.com/gal...sion-Top-Coat/.

From my experience you can do the single color, and then add a clear coat on top if you want the finish to be shiny. You can also use matte clear coat etc. In my case I liked the satin finish without the clear coat so I just did the color with nothing on top.

Thanks for that. I have to mull it over. I like both the ti silver and the mercury silver. Those wheels I posted above are my minds eye of what the Volk mercury silver color looks like but I'm not honestly sure. I'm bringing these wheels to the shop Saturday.

How long is this process? How long do you wait before remounting the tires?

I have heard some shops use a lower temperature to do wheels for integrity.

I've had a few sets of Mercury Silver CE28. It's an interesting color, in the sun it looks almost like chrome, in lower light it can look like gunmetal. It's a very difficult color to photograph. It's also kind of fragile in regards to scratching, and really difficult to match for touch up. Personally I would go with a color that matches closer to Sebring Silver.

Is it the look of the ti silver you prefer? The durability?
My car is sebring and while I do like ti silver against the silverstone - I've been leaning toward a more glossy chrome MS imitation to achieve a bit of contrast between the color of my car and the wheels. The look I have been leaning toward is actually fairly close to the OEM wheel color. But, I am wavering.
I don't know - I'm probably obsessing over it at this point. I'll make a decision tomorrow when I drop them off.
