Default New Extreeme Performance for 2017?

Jim,
Any new super sticky tires for 2017? I'm autocrossing and have been running Bridgestone RE-71Rs.

There are several new releases set for this year, they just haven't been released yet.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...l=Proxes+R888R

Though the consensus is out if they are any better than the RE71R

Are they street legal?
will they be a problem in case of insurance claim? police check up?

From TireRack.com

While Proxes R888R radials meet D.O.T. requirements, they are not recommended for driving in wet conditions when shaved or worn where standing water is present and there is a risk of hydroplaning. Drivers should drive cautiously at reduced speeds if they encounter these conditions.

Yep, that Proxes R888R statement had me worried too, just not practical for routine driving. RE-71R is a fantastic overall tire (wet or dry) and has been the most competitive tire for two or three seasons now. I would have no issues with it on a daily driver. But in autocross we're often talking about hundredths of second separating positions and the people with the latest tires often are the one in the trophy spot.

For me the wet/dry issue knocks the Proxes out of consideration. We often don't know what the mix of wet/dry will be for the day and the Proxes would force me to trailer a second set of tires to each event (which I used to do when racing slicks were legal).

If you're look for a sticky tire strictly for the street, I really like the Dunlops ZIIs (ZIIIs are rumored). They are a fantastic all round tire that inspire confidence in wet or dry conditions. The RE-71Rs are almost as good in the rain but have an edge over the Dunlops in the dry. If ZIII's do turn out to be real, I'll be in line for a set.

I am not a Hankook fan. In my experience they aren't as stiff as Dunlops or Bridegstones, but they are very competitive tires and the new R-S4 may be the tire to beat this season.

as many people around me are using the RE-71 im leaning towards trying a different tire, will check out the Hankook's and maybe also the RA-1 as well
