Opinions on summer tires for stock AP2 sizes
Quick!
I recently noticed my tires were wearing down to the point I need to start thinking about new rubber, when 5 miles into my road trip this weekend I end up with a nail in my rear tire. Boo.
So, shopping has been accelerated. Here are the relevant deets, please let me know if I'm missing any current tires out there
07 AP2, stock everything
Southern California canyon slicer/daily driver
my priority order - performance; tread life; cost
From sniffing around it seems the board has generally agreed on
Michelin Pilot Super Sport
Bridgestone Potenza RE-xx
which are currently out of stock! any other suggestions?
p.s. feelings on run-flat tires?

Avoid run flats.
Discount tire seems to be having a sale til the end of today.
Pilot SS is your best bet, followed by Bridgestone Potenza S04's.
In before someone tells you to buy 71R's for no reason.

If performance is your #1 priority as mentioned for the dry environment and driving you like to do, then you should be shopping in the extreme summer category. You have a good 6-7 choices. There are some minor differences in grip, handling precision and price within that category, but all of them will outperform in every way over the piliots and s04.
RE71 is in the Extreme Summer category but has been proven to stand alone from the rest, used as a cheater street tire for the track to get 3-4 quick lap times before it starts falling off, something that wont happen on the street, but the wear rate is higher then the other extremes as a result of its higher grip performance, being on par with R compounds.

I can hear my 71R's over my T1R EM single...same story with my Z2's, RS3's, etc. They're all unrefined and shitty in water (by comparison to a good MP tyre) as well.
The pilots are a better tyre for a car that isn't going to see actual track time, but is going to be driven spiritedly. Good choice, OP.

I voted (with my checkbook) for the Bridgestone Potenza S04 tires. Previous tires were now out of production RE-11A. OEM sized fronts (215), 255 rears just 'cuz. Seem to handle just as well as the RE-11As. Michelin tires have never impressed me and their tread just doesn't look right after the RE-11A (or RE-71R) tires, a completely arbitrary reason.
