Damaged left front tire today. Hit a very rough section of pavement at Interstate speed (70-75). Have a raised goose egg on outer sidewall. Wheel sidenote appear to be damaged. Was planning to replace tires in another month or so but now doing that sooner. My question is how safe is it to drive much distance on this tire? I live in a small town with limited retail options, like Big O. Nearest town with more options would be 45 minutes away. Thoughts welcome. Thanks in advance.

if its got a bubble, its already toasted. you could try rolling on it, but it won't last long.

Retail?

Tire rack can have a set of four tires on your front porch (or shop) probably in one day. I get literally overnight tire delivery from them here in Ohio. Ya still need a place to mount them. Tire Rack has recommended mounters all over. I ship my tires to their shop, not my house. I just replaced my 17" RE-11A tires with S-04s.

I just go to my local tire shop and they order in the tires if they don't have them in stock which they usually don't. So it does take a couple of days. I find the total cost is the same or less than ordering from tire rack and I help out my local shop. He is a nice guy and he treats me well, especially now that I am buying a set of pretty expensive tires for this car every 10-20K miles, not to mention the other two vehicles in my family, (ugh).

If it were me I would order the tire/tires either online or at a local shop, pull off my wheels, and bring them down to the shop when the new tires are in for mounting and balancing, then bolt them on the car myself.

Can you show a pic of how bad it is? I'd say as long as you dont go over 55mph you should be okay from 50-75 miles before replacing it...assuming it's not crazy bad and fixing to pop

Bubbled tyres don't usually blow out any time soon. But...there's no sure way to tell. Drive only as much as you need to...or put the spare tyre on one of the front positions.

Just ordered a set of Sumitomo HTR PO2 from one of our local stores. Have no experience with this brand, but they have three in stock and can have the fourth on Monday. We shall see. Thanks for the input.

I think those have decent reviews on TR. Its best not to risk driving on it much if at all. Worst case it blows out and damages your rim and possibly parts of the car.

Yes, my feelings exactly. Even taking it easy, one can't predict a blow-out. The car will stay in the garage until Monday if at all possible. The mis-matched tires that were on the car (Yokohama A/S front and Michelin summer rear) were on my spring replacement plan anyway. Thanks to Indiana's horrible roads, another reason to keep the car parked for now, that will happen sooner than I had planned.
