Once, I "layed down" my friend/roomate's Katana that was parked in my garage while he was on vacation (like your dad, I was just moving it to clean some other stuff) -- I crushed the mirror, turn signal. I felt terrible about it. I had it completely fixed with new parts when he got home, and I was still apologetic for months. Very Embarrassing! Hell, I still feel bad about it.
You kinda gotta let that stuff slide every once in a while (so long as it's not persistent).
