The summary of the 2008 Year-End Ce0-Speech was announced today by Honda, with major changes and cutbacks that will be implemented within the year 2009. Among this changes, investment in R&D is affected and the development of the NSX successor model equipped with V10 engine will be cancelled.
Honda is considering the global economical situation that has affected the automotive industry and will reassess the priorities of all investment and development projects.
Investment and further strengthening in advanced environmental technologies will take place as hybrid technologies is the most realistic path for CO2 reduction at this stage. Honda will also strengthen its manufacturing system to support sales of hybrid models.

I am done with Honda, we absolutely live in the past and now it’s OFFICIAL, no F1, no GT monster, no new NSX … the S2000 is obsolete in today’s standards when a Cobalt SS can be faster (there’s not even a really “new” S2k or S3K on the horizon) … yes, we are in the past, past glorious days of F1 and racing bleeding out of even an mundane accord.
Last weekend while servicing our RL i saw the new TL, my wife said –and believe me, she is no car expert– that looks like an Buick, and that considering that the TL in question was the one wit the STUPID thing of front (we call thing) painted to match the car’s color, the MDX is ok and the TSX is for girls, our RL is a great car SHAWD but for my wife and carry kids, 300hp is good enough .. and going to the grocery store, nice luxury .. AND THAT’S IT! …..
Our next car since will be a family car it might a volvo (my wife LOVES volvos) and I am done with Honda, i will be happy forever with my NSX … maybe i’d get someday a used R8 … or a Gallardo, someday, Honda? don’t think so … “restructuring” means BORING, safe GREEN cars that SELL and make $$$$$ that’s it … enthusiasts like us are simply ignored and on a COLD WAR style asked quietly and politely to move to R8’s Porsches and Gallardos .. which are the demographics anyways for the original NSX buyers … SHAME ON HONDA SHAME ON HONDA.
I am pissed ..

Welcome to the new reality. The golden age of automobiles is over (for now)

^^Oskie seems mad.
I’m very disappointed to hear this as well. Too many companies are halting progress in favor of saving a buck in the very very short term. Not acceptable in my books, though perhaps a slow down in progress is warranted to save funds until the market gets better.
It’s a drastic overreaction as more and more companies begin to un-secure their futures by “securing” the present for themselves.

i really dont think you guys should be getting upset with this. honda has to make sure they servive this crisis. they are doing everything in thier will power to keep going because of the fact that the u.s. automotive market aint doing so hot. i think its a smart choice its way better then ending up like chevy, ford, and chrysler. and im not even worried about the sports cars that honda makes becuase i know in the near future its going to come out with something so amazing you going to regert getting a volvo for the wife

Wait on top of being dissappointed i am confused. Although I am still pretty young so i may not get it. I assumed that the new NSX would be a really nice car with a decently high price tag. I figured that their target market would be true car enthusiasts and people who can afford to spend near $100,000 on a new car. It just seems to me that this was never meant to be a mass production car like a civic, more comparable to the new GTR or something, and the people who could afford to buy it when the eceonomy was better, well they still have enough money to buy it now. After all the new GTR has people buying it and it is supposed to continue in production so why can’t they finish the NSX?
I just feel sad because I feel that Honda needs to come up with some more variety to their performance cars.
That being said Honda is still the bomb

friend of mine did a test drive on New NSX
He is one of the honda engineer works in Canada. Couple of months ago he went to Japan and did a test drive on upcoming NSX. I heard so many good things about that car from him and had high hopes. Now it’s all down the drain???????????

I just died a little bit on the inside. S2000 is our only key to victory now =(

you guys forget, toyota cancelled LFA. toyota has gotten rid of the sport scene and they did very well. honda is quite a bit smaller than toyota and they are looking out in best interest to keep the company alive. millions are spent on r&d and racing. right now honda is keeping the money in the mattress and waiting till things blow over. since it is cancelled and not postponed, my guess is that if honda is still working on a v8 for the up coming rl (roll eyes), they maybe be able to use it in the future nsx if they decide to work on it again. as sad as this is, this is a good movement. how many people do you see in a local town selling everything from homes to lawn mowers just to make a payment on something and look how many people are flocking to buy a car right now. its like if you work and you get a small paycheck because your work slowed down and you dont work as much so you save your money on things you need and have less fun.

Calm down, Oscar…
In case you hadn’t heard, there is a recession on. Expect to suffer. And not just in terms of your automotive choices. Just hope that another golden age follows the current downturn.
Of course you are right about a couple of things. The exit of Honda from F1 and the styling decision re: the Acura corporate identity in its grill styling must have Soichiro Honda rolling in his grave.
But the TSX, as anyone who has driven this great handler will tell you, is not just for the ladies. (I think you insult both male and female owners when you call it a “girl’s car” as if a female can’t handle the torque steer of a TL.
As for bemoaning the loss of the NSX, I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t have been able to even come close to affording one anyway.
Now that I’ve pulled your string I will agree with the overall theme of your post. Seems like the Toyotafication of Honda is well under way. At least we have Nissan and Mazda to carry the banner of the rising sun in the arena of interesting automotive hardware.

thats why I sold my s2k and got me an 07 350z..all black. 307 HP almost double the tq of an s2k and Im loving it. Cant wait to turbo charging..You guys need to come over to the dark side. Admited, honda is done. I also saw the new gtr, man its gorgeous…dont know why the nsx project was cancelled and the gtr was not. I mean we are in a economical crisis right…oh well. The s2k is a chick car anyways, to small and still only 4 cylinders. Its a V-6 for me.. Just admitted guys, the Z is the way to go. Not pricey at all for the power, sexy looks,(doesnt get mistaken by a sissy ass miata, hint hint), sounds beautiful with that exhaust (you know thats true) and it handles very nice. Its time for a change…I used to be like you guys for years, hell my first car was a civic..but its time to grow up guys.
on Dec 23rd, 2008 at 3:40 pm
^haha Z is cool looking if you like the look of a lowered VW beetle! That thing has about as much styling as a bar of soap! Sure the s2k might be a little underpowered stock but the motor is bulletproof and I’m not sure you can say that about a 350Z You can throw down 500whp with a boosted s2k on a stock motor with a headgasket. Hell ive got 400whp right now on a completely stock motor! Everyone car is what you make it and mine is far from a chicks car
But have fun with your bar of soap! If you wanted torque ya should have bought a mustang! hahahaha!
on Dec 30th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
Didn’t mean to hurt your feelings there miata lover. Actually I did. Funny how you s2k guys get when the truth is spoken. I’ll take my bar of soap anyday. I’m not into chick cars. Later.
on Dec 31st, 2008 at 9:51 am
nobody gets hurt when you say the s2k is under power, yes it is, but i have one and it has 80000 racing miles turbo charged. the engine is a peice of art, unlike your 3.7 liter quest van engine.
on Dec 31st, 2008 at 8:46 pm
I dont know man, I own a 2005 SC (comptech) S2K , my friend owns an 07 350z all blue and he gets more attention then I do for some reason when we are cruising. Most of our friends prefer the Z. I do get mocked because I have the smallest car out of all my friends.. His getting the twin turbo from greedy and man im actually excited for him. I love the way that car feels. I must say stock vs stock I would prefer the 350z..who knows what ill prefer when I drive his twin turbo Z.. his car has no trouble keeping up with me at all. I thought ther were to heavy..’well you should go with a Z trader, blah blah blah’, the truth it is a very nice car. Better than an S2k, thats your opinion. Oh by the way, I was at the Chevrion gas station and a girl told her boyfriend talking about my S2K who by the way was driving a Z early model all black with rims, look thats a cute car, I want one..Man I hate when people say I have a cute car, its like the 5th time I hear it. Not good, but oh well.
on Dec 31st, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Nice, 80000 miles on a 2.0 or 2.2 liter car. Congratulations, do you want a cookie? Hey Joe youll be soon converting to a faster, better looking car. I told you you guys that the S2K is a chick car. CUTE, hahaha yeah I remember those days when people used to confuse my car for a miata or a small bmw and used to tell me ‘wow what a cute car’..Im done with those days. You can have you cute car. Still prefer my soap aka quest van or whatever else you want to come up with. Its funny how I only hear does remarks from the S2K guys. I love it. All Im saying is what people are thinking when they see an S2K and you guys get all upset. If I remember dont you guys have a forum regarding ‘the things people say about the S2K’ and there very similar to what im talking about. C’mon now, you can B.S me, I used own an S2K for about 4 years. But its ok. In the end, its once opinion.
Happy New Year to all.
on Jan 4th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
haha us upset? Nope havnt offended us one bit! YOU are the one who keeps returning to a S2000 FORUM!!! to defend you bar of soap so you can feel good about your car! Yes our car is low on hp but it is easily made faster, yes its smaller but if we didnt like it we wouldnt have bought it in the first place. END OF STORY! Go find a Z forum to make yourself feel at home! You bashing s2ks just makes you look like a fool that has nothing better to do than surf the net and feel tough! Oh and your car is not a whole lot bigger than an s2k…Maybe you should have got the quest since that motor is soooooo fast
on Jan 8th, 2009 at 10:38 am
we are in a major resession. Honda is doing what it needs to last through it. Give them a few years.
As for the 350Z, it has 40% more displacement but dosen’t outperform the s2000,as it should. I’ve owned both 350Z and S2000. S2000 won my heart.
Maybe the 370z will be a better sports car.
on Jan 9th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
Look man I own a 2002 s2000 and a 350z as well 05. I don’t care what you guys say I still like the Z better. All I hear is whinning whinning and more whinning from everybody but in the end each car has its pros and cons. If you like the smaller 4 cyl car with less HP and TQ but excellent handle go for the s2k if u like the bulkier more aggresive 6 cyl car go for the Z. To me it’s the Z. I just love the extra HP and TQ and for my daily commute. Its also more comfortable. Let’s not get into “well if I add a turbo and if I make the honda look more aggressive its way better then the Z, ect..” stock vs stock I prefer the Z for those reasons. That simple.
