The End of S2000, V8 Program and CR-Z Convertible

http://www.babez.de/honda/s2000-2007/honda-s2000-2007-titel.jpgSad news, as what it seems to be the end of sport design by Honda.

According to a report in a British Magazine, plans of  the successor of the S2000, the V8 engine and the CRZ convertible are dropped off.

The convertible version of the new Honda CR-Z hybrid coupe is left aside and will not see production along with the anticipated successor of the Honda S2000, which will definitely die this year.

The development of a new V8 engine for the rear drive cars has also stopped.  It was stated that the new Honda V8 engine was set to be the wrong engine to design and manufacture, as  Honda engineers mentioned that it  was too heavy and big.  Honda’s product planners claimed that they had trouble to figure out how to make the engine cost-effective.

Honda now just focus on hybrid technologies and is expected to see a variety of hybrids that will hit the market.

ill tell ya the truth, i hope this is true, it just makes our s2k’s more valuable which would work in our favor considering all the new cars being produced are leaving us in the dust. lol

look at the way things are now adays. You really think that Honda should be thinking about sports cars and nurburgring times?? They made a great decision and respect it. Its a shame we will not see a successor though. On with the hybrids Honda; till things get better.

Reminds me of a top speed comparison that Road&Track did between the flagship cars from Ferrari and Lamborghini. Both cars performed exceptionally well with the Ferrari winning top speed honors.

The author stated that sadly these types of cars would soon be a thing of the past as fuel prices continued to rise.

Did I mention that this was Febrauary 1982???

I for one am so glad to hear this. I have a Comptech S/C on my car and it is basically perfect. My 7 year old AP1 has yet to hit 30,000 miles (maybe this spring) and unless Honda released a successor that was better (>300whp, <3000lb) I plan on keeping it indefinitely. Now that there is no successor, all the more reason to keep my money in my pocket! W00t!

If production of the S2000 is indeed ending, I will soon be buying what will be my 3rd one to own. A review of performance numbers makes the s2k a no-brainer for any true sports car enthusiast. Lighweight, high-revving, rear wheel drive, limited slip, rigid chassis, close ratio 6 speed, 0-60 in the low 5’s, 1/4 mile in the high 13’s, slalom at 70 mph, breaking from 60 less than 120ft, and I could on and on… I’m in love.

    – it’s been a great run for the s-2000, sad to see it go – i truly enjoy the car – as we all know, there is nothing else on the market like it – hopefully it will just be a pause in the corporate mindset, but sadly the economic times have certainly changed, and warrant honda to make some, possibly unpopular, decisions – there’s still time to find some leftover 2008’s, and probably at decent prices too – time to seal one up in storage somewhere !!

what a car! i have an 04 s2k and also a 74 911 coupe. i cant decide which i like the most . both are currently for sale. im in a practical stage, one has to go! i’ve decided to let the car gods hash this one out. which ever car sells first is the one that will go. i concider my s2k a trophy. it is indeed a proper sports car. p.s. the factory hard top rules
