Self-hating S2000 drivers? – Onehots2k opinion

Over the past 5 years I’ve encountered a good number of S2k drivers that don’t really care for convertibles. I have to admit that I’m in that boat. There are not a lot of convertibles out there that strike my fancy. It was very difficult for me to figure out why.

BMW is easily one of my favorite car companies and none of their three convertibles strike my fancy. Folding hardtops are becoming more popular and are a solid attempt at offering the best of both worlds. I’m still not into those either. They typically carry more weight up top and often detract from the flow of styling. I live in Florida and it is pretty hot and humid most of the time.

If procrastination was an art, I would paint a masterpiece daily. I’m always running late to something or trying to make good time. I forget to drop the roof. This is the part where you call me a weirdo.

I put my top down about once a week. Why? I do it because I normally have a group drive to whatever restaurant the mini s2000 meet is and everyone else does it. I honestly fall in love all over again! The experience is so raw and visceral. I feel as if I’m driving a total different car. The heart rate is going, music is blasting, and I’m focused and probably hungry too! It’s that very feeling that makes me believe the car is special and isn’t easily replicated. That amazing night ends and I’m back to not caring for convertibles all over again. I can’t realistically see myself in another convertible other than an s2000. That has to mean something, right?

Unrealistically I can see myself in another. It would go by the name of Pagani Zonda. This just means my drop top ownership experience will be few and far in between. Also, very memorable! Powerball Lotto here I come.

Very interesting! When I had my s I hated convertables and would normaly keep the top up. I sold my s2000 last summer and was so happy to have a car with interior space and a roof not to mention an areodynamic windshield with almost no wind noise. Sure enough I want another s2k!

I too fall in to this category.

I recently told a good friend that I would never buy a convertible, and just months later I purchased my S2000. Oddly the desire to buy a hardtop escapes me as well. It think the S looks best with the top up and the windows down. My love for the S is whole hearted but not because of the drop top.

    You are not alone aashish2.

It depends on the mood and weather conditions for me. In Greece, the weather is most of the year, sunny and warm. I love the feeling of a roadster. But a Mugen hardtop that I used to have in my previous S2000, kept me within the S for a long time without going convertible.

here in sunny socal i almost always drive with the top down.. my S is a true weekender so the 2-3 days i drive the car a week, im making the most of it!

plus, the blind spots with the top up just drive me crazy sometimes.

I am new to the s2000 family, i got mine from my step dad as a graduation gift. before my s2k I hated convertibles and would love to have a hard top (even now) but on those clear nights driving with the top down is amazing plus the weather is for the most part amazing in NC. I love my s2k hand down best car Ive ever driven.

S2000 is not a “convertible” it is a roadster. Convertibles are just regular cars with the tops cut out and bracing added. The S2000 is naturally designed to not have a top, think Shelby Cobra.

I run topdown, rain , sunny, snow , even hurricane. Let the breeze of the earth slap you in the face while your foot is heavy on the throttle engaging the all infamous v-tec. I love it and don’t think I’ll ever get bored of this vehicle.

I’m one who was very hesitant to buy the S because of the drop top. I always said that if they made the car as a coupe instead of a convertible, I’d buy the coupe. Now that I own an S2K, I LOVE that it’s a convertible and drive with the top down most of the time. I’d still like a hard top for the winter as this is my daily driver.

I drive with the top down whenever I can. It is a roadster and IMHO should be enjoyed as such.

I,too, love my ’06 S2K Roadster. There has always been a roadster in my family: ’58 MGA, ’61 MGA, ’70 XKE ’71 MGB, and a ’95 Z3. When it came time for me to consider a roadster for myself, I wanted a car with the classic roadster look and “knock your socks off” performance. I haven’t been disappointed. With the addition of a tiny bit more horsepower, chassis strength, and braking power, I tell my wife that it knows what I want it to do before I even ask for it. She just shakes her head and thinks I’m crazy. However, I’ve seen that little smile and handrail death-grip when we’re straightening out those country roads or blasting up onto an Interstate. Yep…I (we)love my S 2000 :-) .

Hypnotic: Is what I call driving my S2000 I often fiind my self driving My s2000 over the speed limit by a huge margin This is due to what as best as I can describe as Drivers High. For those of us who may haven been cross country runners or road course runners may understand that terminology what is called runners high. Anyway as I am driving along with the top down the wind blowing around me, the revs of the car, It beggs for more revs, I am often more than willing to honor my s2 request. As she get to moving faster she seems to respond better shes wispering sweat revs to my ear and uncontrollaby my right foot tends to press down harder, As I glance down at the tac, I totally ignore the speed limit simply because My s2 seems to be happiest climing to 8/ 9 g’s Then for some ungoddly reason I snap out of it and relize im at about 80 Miles per hour and climbing, But for those 8 to 10 miles or so All I can remember is the complete thrill I was having while driving to work, oh by the way I guess I should stop typing on company time and get back to work.

Ps Looking foward to leaving today and Drive Home Nuff said.

I felt the same way! I almost went with the 370z because I wanted a coupe, but I found an S2000 with a hard top. It’s not the same as a coupe, but close. A friend of mine convinced me to try the top down and while I do enjoy it in the summer, I honestly don’t notice most of the time whether the top is up or down. I’m focused on the incredible grip and listening to the delicious sound of the engine and preparing to go around the next corner ridiculously fast! Whoohoo! I remember when I was test driving it, the dealer grabbed on for dear life and said, “You see that corner up ahead, right?” Of course! That’s why I downshifted! God, I love driving this car! I also love that bit about “If procrastination was an art, I would paint a masterpiece daily.” Can I get that on a t-shirt?
