Words of praise – Is it for the car or the people that drive it?

Our member dlq04 an avid sports car enthusiast was perusing through a December 2009 issue of the UK’s Classic & Sports Car Magazine, when he came upon their review of the S2000. He was gracious enough to share it with us.

Per dlq04: “I’m catching up on my reading of UK’s Classic & Sports Car magazine, which I consider the best in the world on classic sports cars. I think many of you owners will be pleased to read what Malcom McKay had to say about the S2000 in the Dec ’09 issue.

The heading reads “An engineering masterpiece, this soft-top fireball is also a surefire future classic.”  In the article he throws in a nice plug for this site, “For such a modern car, it is unusual to find an exceptionally comprehensive and mature forum with answers to every conceivable problem: see http://www.s2ki.com/forums. “

Under “On the road”, he says “The S2000 is a real driver’s car, uncompromised by modern fads and fancies.  It’s still complex by classic standards, however, with a lot of electronic componentry that can be expensive to fix if it goes wrong.”  I should buy back my S2000, just so I can register as #1,000 on the S2000 Registry. He didn’t say anything you owners don’t already know but still nice to hear.”

I’m sure the endorsement for the S2000 came as no surprise to you, but the words of praise for the forum (all of us regardless of member, guest, moderator, community organizer, News Editor…you get my point) are indeed a welcome surprise and a pat on our collective backs. So even though this news is a year old, and we can’t find any online link to the article (Classic & Sports Car is a paid content site only), we hope that publishing this will keep morale high for our existing members as also encourage prospective new owners into buying a future classic and joining the S2Ki family.

In closing, we’d like to pose the following question to you. Is it the S2000 that has made the community what it is today OR is it people like us. We can’t seem to find the answer, can you?

A gracious tip of our collective hat to dlq04 and Classic & Sports Car Magazine.

Pretty cool to seeing s2ki reference from a UK mag! I think the s2000 just draws a certain type of person and the community that’s created in turn is from those people like us

To answer your question about what makes the community—the car or the people—I’ll risk equivocating by saying that it’s equal parts car, equal parts people. This car fills the small, driver’s car niche so perfectly that it was destined to create such a vibrant community as S2K International and others. And it’s up to the people to have made those communities thrive and to fill them with knowledge and assistance. Without the soul of the car and the passion of the people that drive it, this would be a lame car on a lame forum.

Kudos to Honda for creating one of the premiere roadsters of all time and inspiring the Brotherhood of the ‘S’.

I’ve owned my S for over seven years, and still enjoy getting in the drivers seat and it puts a smile on my face for my 89 mile commute. I’ll never get rid of that car ! Looking for CR right now. If you ever thought of owning one,do it,it will indeed enhance your life !

It is the car. Granted there is a “brotherhood” when people are drawn to the same vehicle and share a kinder-ed love of the same. Had this forum or the Internet never existed there would still be those who would seek out others that share a common passion for a great Sports Car, just like those who owned MGs, Triumphs, Porsche’s etc. did many years ago Lame car? NEVER. Lame people are everywhere. I rather doubt a lame person would even know how to appreciate the S2000 and others who share the passion.
