So, some of you were upset about having wasted two minutes of your life after watching last week’s video of the week. Is that really such a big f@#king deal considering the rest of your time is wasted on S2KI anyways (haha, we jest!!). Just as last week’s “pointless” video, the video you are about to see may appear to be pointless too, pointless in that you will see an S2000 being taken apart, crushed, and then given a ceremonial burial by the fine students of the Butte College Motorsports Program.
Per the description of the video, this S2000 was one of the cars Honda gave to magazines to test drive. Having completed its tour of duty, it was donated to the Butte College Honda PACT Technician Training program to use for racing purposes with their newly formed Motorsports Dynamics class. Wow! How does one get into that program? Having been converted into a race-ready machine, the car then went on to achieve honors in the SCCA championships in 2008 and 2009, even finishing first in its class at The 25 Hours of Thunderhill. Shortly after the race, the car had to be crushed (we are not sure why), and its components were removed for educational purposes. The car may be gone, but its impact lives on. Rest in peace, little friend; you shall not be forgotten for you achieved in your short life what most S2000s can only dream of. I’m sure you will all agree that this car was given a proper send-off as opposed to languishing in a scrap yard or being wrapped around a tree.

Apologies did not meant to offend. Thank you OP for always putting interesting videos of the week. I always look forward to seeing them, its just…it was a perfectly good S2000. Why lay it to rest, donate the damn thing or something, and than those stupid morons taking pictures and celebrating the death of such masterpiece.

It may have been crushed because it did not have a VIN. Whether it did or not is irelevent. The car should have gone to a museum instead of meeting this end. Although it looks like they kept a lot of useable parts.

I would like to nominate this video and the people for biggest idiots of 2011
on Mar 25th, 2011 at 6:41 am
Seriously, why? There are people out there who would love to have an S2k, or a car period. OK, if s2kx2 was right and it didn’t have a VIN, they could’ve at least donated it to another college or even high school where students may be able to learn about cars. I wonder if there is a video of students “laying to rest” $30K into a pit of fire. Such a waste…..

Crushing the car is the standard practice for school donated cars. If you knew how many have been destryoed after being wrenched on to perfection, you would weep. Doesn’t matter what brand. They all do it.
on Mar 25th, 2011 at 7:26 am
Sad, but true. Manufacturers will crush cars that are donated with no VIN. Hell, Mazda crushed and destroyed hundreds of cars when their ship rolled. It all comes down to liability and the manufacuters don’t want to expose themselves. If their is anyone to blame…blame the lawyers.

From YouTube:
Four short years ago this bright yellow Honda S2000 came into the world as a vehicle destined for torturous road tests at the hands of sports car magazines and their editors. It did its job valiantly, and when finished, American Honda very graciously gave this Honda S2000 to the Butte College Honda PACT Technician Training program to use for racing purposes with their newly formed Motorsports Dynamics class. In its debut season of 2006 SCCA Sports Car racing in the class of T-2, it was out classed in performance by more powerful turbo-charged V-6s. However, the students persevered and finished in second place in the San Francisco Region of SCCA with their driver/instructor David Vodden, CEO of Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows, California. During the next racing season of 2007, the students then petitioned SCCA to have the car moved to a more competitive class T-3 where they took first place in the San Francisco Region. This qualified the car to run in the National SCCA run-offs at Heartland Park International Raceway in Topeka, Kansas. So the students in the class decided to send five students and two instructors to race their little yellow Honda where the team scored twelfth in the nation (out of fifty cars).
For the 2008 race season the new team goal was to win 1st place in T-3 again and compete in the longest endurance race in North America, the 25 Hours of Thunderhill. We ended up winning 1st place in our class.
The last and sad part about this whole story is the fact that this little Honda S2000s life has come to an end. It had to be crushed directly after the race. Its components were removed and will be used for educational purposes at our automotive program.

What an EXCELLENT video. Thanks for posting it. Very cool and touching all at the same time.
If y’all had read the Youtube comments you would have picked up on the fact that being a preproduction AP2, it had no VIN and had to be destroyed by law after a certain period.
I’ll bet that really tore at the hearts of all the students and staff that poured a lot of sweat and love into that car. What a shame but at least they were able to get away with crushing only the main chassis.
The car looked great on the track. The “roadrunner” image was really tits.

I feel sort of like i want the last 6 min of my life back, and they should be shot for what they did to the s2000. Jeez, put it on display or something. and why only crush the frame…
on Mar 28th, 2011 at 8:46 am
theres plenty of other cars they could have crushed. according to the color chart that would have been 1 of 2585. guess rio owners are the only ones who benefited from this. your rio just became a little more rare.

why?!?!?

Obviously some of the above posters just don’t get it. The college was required BY LAW to destroy the vehicle.
Colleges and universities tend to comply with the law. (OK, maybe not so much in the atheletic department.)
Setting aside the fact that this is ONLY A CAR–and not a particularly rare one at that–I thought the method of destruction documented in the video was thoughtful, creative, and respectful. The care taken in shooting and editing the video was just further evidence that the folks at Butte “get it” when it comes to the S2000.
The car had a good life. Let it rest in peace, people.
(I do wonder what little project the Butte faculty found for the F22C engine. And who forgot to pull the passanger air bag?)

/\/\ Thank you sir! Finally someone on here with some brains! I swear this place is being filled with all the kids from honda-tech! Go buy another Civic!!
on Mar 29th, 2011 at 6:49 pm
very well said tof. When people can’t look beyond the video, they don’t see that the car was actually in better hands at Butte College. At Honda it was subject to abuse by the press corp I’m sure. Butte College gave the car a home, made it race-ready and then ensured it finished best in class at The 25 Hours of Thunderhill.
Following the race, the car had to be destroyed and as you mentioned, they gave it a ceremonial and touching farewell. Now Honda I’m sure would just have paid someone to pick up the car and crush it unforgotten.
And for all the people complaining on here, how about you go rescue damaged S2000′s where the owners bail once they get their insurance payout letting the car rot in some junkyard. You talk about wasting 6 minutes of your life – I’d be surprised if even one of you had a concrete plan for the next 6 seconds of your life.
Look at the bigger picture and recognize all that this S2000 achieved in its short life with mankind.

uhh… ever heard of a racecar museum?? stupid….
