Here in sunny Singapore, with a total population of only 5 million, the S2000 is a rare sight with latest head count estimates putting the total number of S2000s at just under 50. Most of the owners, like myself, generally meet online to chat and discuss about tracking or modifications, but meets and drives have somehow been very few. Seeing how the last S2000 Mega Meet Up was held in 2009, I decided to see if the owners were open to meeting up in a big way and here is what followed.
The last meet up had fewer cars than this time. This was quite heartening considering that the S2000 has not been in production for some time now and the number of cars is expected to dwindle over time. Many of the previous owners had already changed cars so it was no surprise that there were quite a few new faces to the S2000 owner group. I noticed that the average age of the S2000 owner had also shifted slightly higher and conversations tended to focus much more on heading down to the racetrack, something I was pleased about.
The show stealer car was this car fitted with the latest iteration of the J’s Racing wide-body kit. Painted in a startling metallic green, it really caught the attention of the young and old alike at the meet.
Red & black were the rarest colours present with only 1 owner representing each followed by the Laguna Blue Pearl whose owners were out in force.
Yours truly had the honour of getting a solo shot as well. Non Staggered Represent!
Here are some more pictures of various cars from the event
I saw plenty of shaking of hands, pats on the back and groups peering curiously into engine bays which are all hallmarks of an excellent meet up. With spirits running high, many of the owners were keen to organize another meet up soon or perhaps even a drive to neighboring Malaysia to explore some of the windy back roads which is definitely a good start to the building of a close-knit S2000 community here. I’m looking forward to organizing another event for the Singapore S2000 owners and this time I also plan to capture it on video.
Have you participated in a meet recently? How many cars showed up? Tell us about it.
