If you have never been to a Vintage car racing event, you are missing out on a great opportunity to watch wheel-to-wheel racing, at the amateur level, with cars from different generations.  At the forefront of Vintage Racing is the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA), which has been in existence since 1971 and continues to grow!

Last month, several of the Ohio S2000 owners visited Mid-Ohio for the annual Mechanics Bank Vintage Grand Prix.  This year, the folks at Mid-Ohio were generous enough to provide an S2000 car corral facing the front straight.

Not only were we able to interact with other car clubs, but we were also able to watch the action up close and personal as the cars buzzed by us.  In between sessions, organizers opened up the track for lapping to spectators and enthusiasts, making this an especially memorable event.

Vintage Racing is an excellent opportunity to peer into the past and appreciate past generations of vehicles that are often rare.  For the older generation, this is a blast from the past; for the younger generation, myself included, this is an opportunity to view these legendary vintage cars in person for the first time.  While at the Mechanics Bank Vintage Grand Prix, I started to wonder what vehicles would be showcased in Vintage Races twenty to thirty years from now.

Would cars from the 1950s and 1960s compete, as well as newer production cars like Porsche 944s?  I can’t help but assume that my beloved car, the S2000, would be competing in vintage racing.  I may be biased, but it’s obvious to me that the S2000 is an amazing vehicle that, in my opinion, currently has no comparable replacement and probably never will.  To think that an S2000 isn’t that far away from being entered into the fray isn’t totally unrealistic!

Along those lines, take a moment to peer into the crystal ball and look ahead twenty years.  What car do you foresee parked in your garage?  A futuristic looking vehicle?  An electric vehicle?  Or possibly a vehicle that can fly?  I know one thing is for certain, my S2000 will still be in my garage!
