2012 S2K Challenge Series # 1 at Buttonwillow [w/ video]

With the advent of the new year, the 2012 S2K Challenge series is off to a great start. The first event was staged at Buttonwillow Raceway Park using the 13CW layout. Our member Dipstick reported on the event and his account follows past the bump. It may also interest you to know that our very [...]

The Beginning of (Track Day) Addiction

Many of us have memories of our very first track outing. The hustle and bustle around the paddock, purpose-built race cars being driven in on trailers, the whirr of pneumatic tools as lug nuts are tightened and the public announcement system calling groups to the staging area. All that may make a rookie feel out [...]

Add Lightness

Colin Chapman, that revered saint of minimalism, famously said “To add speed, add lightness.” Needless to say, his words have become a mantra of sorts for track enthusiasts everywhere. Lowering curb weight is one of the ways to improve acceleration and cornering ability. It is a key area of focus for enhancing our cars’ performance [...]

Got Downforce?

There are several ways to enhance the looks and performance of the S2000. Those seeking performance gains often tend to overlook the benefit conferred by aerodynamic parts or aero mods. Such modifications include parts such as a rear wing spoiler (sometimes called a GT Wing which comes standard on the CR and Type S models), [...]

Featured Video – The Driver’s Mecca

We have all heard tales of the Nurburgring, have seen cars being tested or setting lap records. Sir Jackie Stewart labeled it “The Green Hell” for the toll it took on several lives. Over the years, modern safety standards and changes to the layout have improved safety, but the Nurburgring continues to be a cruel [...]

Heel-Toe or Heck No?

Recently, discussion about the “heel-and-toe” downshift technique has raised quite a bit of interest in our Racing and Competition forum as also on my local (Singapore) motoring forum. It is the norm for most (if not all) driver coaching / instructing schools to teach their students to proficiently perform the heel-toe technique. It is widely [...]

‘Damping’ Enthusiasm

I’m barreling down the back straight of PCA’s autocross course at El Toro, chasing redline in second. Ahead is the final right-left-right complex before the finish markers, broad entrances and exits masking a nasty tightening-radius transition through the middle left. I stand on the brakes, feed the car right, roll on the power, lift slightly [...]

What Safety Equipment do you Pack for the Track?

We love bringing our cars to the track to set a few hot laps. Amidst brake bleeding and checking fluid levels, a factor that is often overlooked is track safety equipment of the kind worn by the driver. Checking out one of the local track day events in Malaysia revealed that a majority of folks [...]

Are S2000s Racing Competitively Worldwide?

We’ve often heard of how well the S2000 does on the racetrack and how competitively a well set up S2000 performs alongside higher horsepower rivals. Case in point, the ASM S2000 holds the lap record for the fastest Naturally Aspirated (NA) car at the Tsukuba Circuit in Japan having won the Front Engine Rear Wheel [...]

There is Nothing to Fear from Oversteer

In conversation with a seasoned member, we hit upon the topic of oversteer and the toll it collects on cars, egos and possibly lives. This member opined that best way to correct a spin was to never do anything to cause it in the first place, but then we asked “how was one to know [...]

Video of the Week: From Street King To Drag King

Many track enthusiasts are constantly trying to beat the clock in pursuit of the fastest lap. Yet, there are those that live life a quarter mile at a time. Makes one wonder how fast an S2000 can complete the quarter mile. Look no further. Count the seconds in the first video below that introduces us [...]
