On a Roll

As you probably know by now, the Honda Civic Type R has been on a tour around the world, visiting some of the most famous racetracks along the way. But the Honda is doing a lot more than just showing its face and posing for photos at these fancy venues. In fact, the Japanese manufacturer's new pride and joy is on its way to establishing itself as the world's fastest FWD production car.

Record After Record

Previously on the Type R Challenge, we saw the blaze red hot hatch set new records at legendary tracks such as the Nordschleife at Nürburgring, Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, and the Magny Cours in France. A couple of weeks ago, the Civic Type R was driven around Silverstone by former British Touring Car champion, Matt Neal.

Expert Opinion

Neal was very pleased with the performance of the Type R. Specifically, the way the car handles through high-speed corners. He praised the confidence-inspiring stability in corner entry, which is due to the car's aerodynamic elements as well the advanced suspension system.

Matt Neal drove the Honda Civic Type R around Silverstone in the record lap time of 2:31.32, making it the fastest front-wheel-drive production car to set a time at the Grand Prix circuit.

More to Come

This impressive run of record-breaking lap times is set to continue as Honda has plans to make two more racetrack appearances. Soon, we will see former F1 world champion and long-time Honda enthusiast Jenson Button behind the wheel of the Civic Type R. World Touring Car driver Tiago Monteiro will also be driving the hot hatch later this summer.

What's Next?

There is plenty of speculation as to where the Civic Type R will land next. Given the fact that they have been visiting all the major Grand Prix circuits in Europe, one could assume that they will soon be taking to the track at Monza in Italy, as well as the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain. Regardless of the race track, I think it is safe to assume that the days of some more track records are numbered.
