Teaching the New Guy Something

This year, we've been all over following the magical Honda event known as VTEC Club. The reasons why are very obvious when you see what's in attendance. But aside from all the amazing Honda machines, both old and new, it's worth noting that the S2000 continues to hold its own. And it continues to do so even against newfangled machines like the record-breaking Civic Type R. The pug-nosed Civic bruiser was fully on display at the club's most recent race at Willow Springs' Streets of Willow circuit, which was run counter-clockwise.

Still the King

In all fairness, as Super Street points out, the Type R is still the king. Steven Kronemberger and his white Civic laid down the fastest lap of the day at 1:24.436. Which was also a full second faster than the next guy.

Front-Wheel Drive Emerges

We're also beginning to see more diversity in what was originally an S2000-dominated event. Now there are quite a few front-drive cars entering the mix, especially older Civic hatches. However, there are also plenty of Integras laying down fast times, too.

Don't Fade Me, Bro

Heck, even one Honda Fit showed up this time around to have some fun at the track. But that doesn't mean the S2000 is fading from the VTEC Club mix. Not by a long shot.

On Your Six

Kronemberger and his fancy, modified Type R might have taken home the gold this time around. But right behind him was Brandon Camacho and his S2000, which recorded a best lap time of 1:25.487.

First Timer

Making that feat even more impressive is that Camacho has just returned to track racing after a one-year hiatus. Not bad for a first time (back) out!

Hitting the Podium

Group A had some impressive showings by S2000s, too. Benjamin Ellsworth took second place with a 1:29.377, while Paul Parquette secured third with a 1:29.425.

1-2 Finish

It was the same story in Group N, where Billy Jang and Ricardo Hernandez claimed the top two spots in their S2000s with lap times of 1:26.706 and 1:27.608, respectively.

Dead Reliable

There were plenty of other S2000s in the mix, too. Which, as Super Street points out, rounded the Streets of Willow "with signature reliability that's all but unmatched among Honda-powered time-attack machines."

Talk the Talk

So the next time somebody tries to tell you that your car is "old" or "inferior" compared to the latest performance machines, you can just shrug it off and laugh. Or, maybe just drag them out to a VTEC Club event and let the results do the talking for you!
