Default S2000 Resurrection - Sitting to Supercharged

Hi all,

I'm buying a 2001 s2000 in the very near future. I would go to my aunt and uncles and there was always an s2000 outside in the same spot. This most current time it wasn't plated and i was hoping he would consider selling it. I got in touch with him and we've already agreed on a price.

What I know about the car
-The car has 163k.
-The car has been sitting for 3 years outside
-It had a valve train job at 89k
-It has had 2 transmissions replaced and its broken again so this will be number 3. He says the 1-2 synchro piece is what kept breaking
-The tires are bad but he says he has the stock rims and tires

What my plans are for the future
X empty gas tank and replace and fuel filter
X Fix small surface rust in front of the rear tires and use rust stopped and cover with side strakes
X replace transmission with ap2 for the carbon synchros and I hear motor benefits the slightly different gear ratios and it shifts smoother
X put the ap1 flywheel on the ap2 trans

will strakes cover this?

will strakes cover this?

the hood has a decent dent

hopefully i can just replace those 2 rusted brackets

pretty bad rust here but looks fixable

it looks like you might need a new top too, but its hard to tell from just these pictures.. im sure ur getting a good price on the car, but if it were me, I wouldn't want to buy a car that already needs so much work. all that work is just to get it up and running after purchase, but it doesn't consider the problems that will naturally arise during ownership of a car that is purchased with 180k on the odometer. If you go thru with it tho, I wish u the best of luck. However, I think if you take the purchase price of the vehicle and add in the costs of all that work, im sure there are other s2000s that would fit in the price range.. sorry I couldn't provide more input, but I wouldn't want to mislead you and im really not the guy to be helping u out. good luck

Other than the mileage why do you think it needs a new motor?

That's all i know about it as of now and that its been sitting for 3 years. I'm going to need to replace the trans so id be able to get a better deal if I'd do them together, but if high mileage doesnt affect these motors that bad, and it seems to run fine ill just drive it until it pops?

Hopefully whoever had the car took better care of the motor than they did with the rest of the car,

Welcome! Tires have a shelf life and are one of the more important pieces of the car, especially AP1s as they tend to be a little more tail-happy than AP2s. I recommend buying all new tires as there's no telling how old the ones on the stock wheels are... and maybe a fresh alignment. Wish I had more to add but good luck and again, welcome to the forum!

It's such a shame to see an s2000 that was left outside to rot.
