Default CR Conversion

The wife and I have decided that it is time. I was thinking about just buying a CR, but felt it wouldn't be prudent. I'm excited. I will probably start buying parts in October.

I'm not going to mess with the engine or transmission. The engine and transmission are the normal AP2 transmission anyways. I will be upgrading the suspension and exterior. From what I understand, The spring rates for the CR and AP1 are nearly identical. I may just put my AP1 springs on and by the CR shocks or just keep my Koni Yellow. We'll see. I sent RadioZero a pm asking him some questions. He just recently did this to his. I will be keeping the soft top and interior the same. I will be buying some 17" wheels in white though.

I will be trying to figure out the differences in the AP1 suspension and CR suspension and will go from there.

Very cool James. I've seen only one other ap1 post up a while back who did the full swap. I can tell it transformed the ap2 after driving Matt's. I suspect it will transform the ap1 too.

I'd do the full swap though...springs, shocks and sways. The CR springs are much stiffer than any of the ap1 springs and the shocks + sways are matched to that spring rate.

James i sent you a reply PM.

i agree with robert, you should really consider the complete shock/spring combo and the CR sway bars. don't forget the CR sway bar bushing are also a harder durometer than stock. (based on my garage testing) plus the bushing have a different ID measurement.

i would also bet that your 8 yr old springs are toast, so putting them with super stiff new shocks will only wear out the shocks faster. not to mention compromising the ride quality.

in addition, the CR sways are cheap $$ compared to aftermarket.

don't go cheap on the suspension just to get a big ass wing.

Thanks for the info Robert. It is way cheaper to go this route than the price for a CR.

Thanks. I won't go the cheap route. I want to do this the right way. It is still cheaper than buying a new car. Very good points. This is exactly the feedback I was wanting.

Will I have to upgrade the headlights for the front bumper to work?
