Default Works Bell Steering Hub Cracked

My works bell hub cracked.

Long story short, I have owned and had this hub installed for many years with numerous track/daily drivings.
One day, there was a bit of scratching/screeching sound whenever I turn the wheel a bit, so I inspected the hub and found this.

It is Works Bell #221 Hub, which is specifically made for S2000.
I had HKB hub initially but I heard nothing but good things about Works Bell, especially in the quality wise.
I am a bit amazed by this incident and have already sent an email to Works Bell.

Anybody here at s2ki experienced similar problem?

That type of crack looks quite similar to my experience. Here's a link to the thread I started: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/995...wheel-and-hub/

Works bell hubs have a tendancy to crack when over-torqued. Maybe it's the materials they use or their casting.

I bought my Works Bell hub from GoTunning and instruction written in Japanese specify torque spec at 23 ft-lbs. Well since my mechanic couldn't read Japanese (not his fault) so he torqued it to OEM spec which is 29 ft-lbs and BAM cracked. Why would you make some material that is less than OEM spec - cheap material i suspect. I email GoTunning/Works Bell and since it was not torqued correctly they will not replace it. So my solution is JB Weld and seems to hold thus far.

I'm starting to get real irked with these JDM parts, freaking nothing but a name tbh. Good luck and hope you can get a replacement.

this is actually something that is quite popular among the work bell hub that i have been seeing lately. coming from miatas i too have seen quite a huge amount of cracked hub from works bell....maybe nrg might be better for this as i haven't heard an issue about them =\

Momo makes one, Sparco makes one. Lots of others too. That is the worst looking cast hub I have seen. Cast steel is a better option IMHO. OEM wheel is steel, AL buys you nothing in this case but risk. The Works Bell short hub is CNC cut AL. It is of a higher quality.

Classic overtorque, these hubs only need 23 ft/lbs. OEM is 39, someone probably used the OEM spec.

according to evasive you should be using model 223.

hey guys,

no reply from works bell yet. which doesn't really surprise me at all.

About the WB part number. 221 is correct one for S2000. 223 is more of generic fit for most Hondas.

I switched the hub back to my old HKB one for safety reasons, but it is the breakage of HKB hubs I have seen on the web which led me to buy WB's in the first place

I have yet to see any HKB hub breaking off from a S2000... hope it stays that way.
