Final drive 4.44 / 4.57 / 4.77
Hey, I was thinking of getting a final drive on my 2002 GT S2000, I was wondering what would be the best ratio the 4.44 / 4.57 / 4.77 what would be the best for the 1/4 mile.

Since your asking about which gear is best for 1/4 mile times you have to think about the amount of shifting you want to do. with your stock gears you probably won't make it out of 4th by the end of the 1/4. if you put in a 4.77 you would be into 5th and possibly 6th. a lot of people love the 4.57 but i don't think there made anymore, they also supposedly have gear whine. the 4.44 is a Mazda gear set that is probably your best bet for shifting and top speed. but between the 4.57 and 4.44 its personal preference. i wouldn't want the whine though. And if you are drag racing you might want to think about strengthening the Diff with a stage 2 diff from puddymod.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of each option? It's a mod I'm interested in doing but don't know much about it other than it will make the car accelerate faster!

The 4.30 or 4.44 is the best all round performer, you get better acceleration without much compromise. The Mazda 4.30/ 4.44 will also be OEM quiet when installed right.
The 4.56/4.57 Richmond gear ratio is also a best performer but, there is compromise with using these gears. These gears are no longer made and can be difficult to find and buy in good used condition. The other issue is, gear whine. These gears sing a bit and sound like a super charger.
The KIA 4.77 is a well made gear set and is OEM quiet but performance compromise is made with this choice. You get the best off the line acceleration to about 3rd/4th gear but after that the performance falls off. Each gear tops out very fast with the 4.77 and a car with a longer gear will catch up and pass you.
If you don't do much highway driving and your looking for 0 to 60mph fun this is a great choice.

So basically as I do a lot of mixed driving, country roads through to highways I'm best to go for a 4.30 or 4.44...am I right to presume thats from a Miata/MX5 and do you change out the internals or just swap the whole unit over?

The 4.30 is in some older Miata cars from the mid to late 90s and eary 2000s The 4.44 was not in the Miata. You only use the ring and pinion everything else you use Honda.

I can feel a mini project coming on for the summer seeing as I have a spare diff! Can you still cruise at about 80-90mph without being on cam with this fitted? Fuel costs over here are astronomical so I don't want to be drinking anymore than I have to!

For 1/4 mile the 4.57 should redline @ 9k when crossing, however I had 4.77 before supercharger and it was a blast however after 3rd gear the car felt like it died. however go boost, you will spend 700+ for gear kit and 300+ for install.
